Would someone please explain N-1 & N-1 Set- its use & purpose.

Is it merely a fixed throttle setting or is there more to it??
Thank you.

In turbine aircraft, they never use absolute full throttle for takeoff.  The pilots will have a certain throttle setting, using N1 as a reference, that they will set for takeoff instead.  What that N1 setting will be is determined by current temperature, field elevation, aircraft weight and runway length usually.

During a normal takeoff, the pilot will advance the throttles about to the right setting, then the co pilot will fine tune the throttles to get the right setting. When the pilots say N1, then N1 set, that is the pilot asking for N1, then the co pilot confirming it is set.
