Runway ID

Hey everyone I'm a newbie here, to flight sim, and to flying in general. I'm going through all the lessons in FS9 and had an issue today on the Private Pilot: Lesson 5 Air Traffic Control. I did everything just fine through takeoff, got landing instructions then landing clearance. Followed the traffic pattern that I learned in the previous lesson and came in and landed but the problem is I landed on runway 16R and they told me to Land on 16L. What's the difference in the R and L? I know the numbers are the direction of them (16= 160*) But how do these R and L's work so I know where to go before I get ready to flair? Thanks for the help. Hopefully someday I'll be as good as you guys so I can upgrade from the Cessna to the shiny new jetliners I have waiting in the garage.

L means Left. R means right. C means center. So 16L would be the runway on the LEFT.

Thanks, in the meantime I tried the flight again, looked around a little more and found it. The first time over I didn't even see that tiny little runway they wanted me to land on, looks more like a city street or maybe a taxi-way. Multiple runways going the same direction with the letter telling you which one to land on, one of those common sense things I should have been able to figure out if I ever have any hope of moving up to the big boys.

Also, runway 16 doesn't necessarily mean that the runway is exactlly 160 degrees magnetic heading.

There's a lot to learn before hopping into the big jets.... ;)
