Solo Cross Country!

Postby BFMF » Fri Dec 09, 2005 3:30 pm

Woohooo.....!  I just got back from my first solo cross country flight! 8)

After being delayed for weeks due to poor weather, the skies finally cleared up ::)

Nothing eventfull happened, and I didn't make any major mistakes, except mess up a couple radio calls, but other then that, all went well 8)

Well done Andrew...well done ;)

I guess in another year or so you will be sitting in the right seat of a spam can with 120 or so screaming passengers ;DLOL

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Congrats Andrew! ;D

Just got my first two out of the way a couple of weeks back.

It's SO much easier without the CFI in the right seat, you can just pile all your stuff right there!

I didn't mess up any radio calls (I'm good at comms thanks to FS) but I did forget to reset my sqwauk to VFR after my flight following was ended on the way home :-[ :)

Congratulations, sounds like it went great.  You'll get used to not having an instructor in the left seat, and it'll be strange when a CFI is sitting there again.  Good luck with the rest of your training, sounds like your almost done, only IFR left right? :)

Not quite. More like eating god knows what out of an MRE ;D

My flight instructor said that as soon as I finish my next cross country flight to a controlled airport, she would start scheduling with the examiner...! :o

I wish I could share her optimism, but if she were to look inside my head, she would probably think twice about letting me go for the checkride. I'm far from ready to think about the checkride, and I probably couldn't come close to passing the verbal part of the exam :-[

The verbal part isn't so bad, it seems more like a flying discussion than an exam, but you should still study, it's always good to be sure of a decision you have to make, than regret it later, so study, study, study. ;)

Oh, don't get the wrong idea!  I had a fantastic time!  My first solo kinda sucked for me, but my solo xcountry was really the best time I've had so far flying, and everything went as planned.

I just don't do writeups anymore. ;)

Congratulations! You will remember and cherish the experience of making that flight as long as you live. I made mine 30 yrs. ago and I could still tell you all the details today! Good luck with the rest of your training!
