I need some help in setting my mixture and prop controls for fuel effecient flight in the Cessna 182S.  Please explain proper exhaust gas temp, as well as correct prop RPM and Manifold Pressure

Well there are a couple of little issues like altitude to consider (the higher you are the more you can thin out the mixture), and also the prop angle....
Can you give us more details on the flight?

Im flying at 6000 feet in no weather.

The weather isn't a factor. As Ozzy stated, the higher you go , the density of the air lessens. Less Oxygen per volume of air means less fuel required and better fuel economy. Most aircraft have a peak EGT in the AFM. What you want to avoid is exceeding this number. Essentially, the leaner you go(higher EGT) the more power you make and the less fuel you burn. The catch is, if you go too lean (too hot), you'll melt a piston. These dynamics are not duplicated very well, if at all on  FS though, and I tend to just run max power in cruise.

Take a Yak-18... Auto-mixture mode on the engine


For a C182RG, with a carb:
Lean to peak EGT, then enrich to get a 50 degree drop in EGT.
