Unless you choose navigation using GPS, the selected route will follow fixed points on map which are located on ideal ground positions and as such it would be a coincidence to be on a straight line and even more connecting the airports between which you want to fly.
This rare but not impossible. For expample if you want to fly in Greece between LGAV (or LGAT) and LGIR even if you choose IFR with High Altitude Airways you will see that you pass 3 VORS all in a straight line. Obvioysly it the intermidiate (second) VOR which coincides on the line defined ny the other two.
