Man, navigating by NDB... how exciting that was back in the day.  I remember during my instrument training my instructor would make me use that blasted ADF to navigate to/from the campus radio station all the time.  I thought I'd never have to use it.  All through the final stage he let me off the hook a bit and would always use the more modern approaches.

As luck would have it my DE changed his plans one me right at the airplane and decided to have me do my approaches to a different airport... which of course included an NDB approach. :(  But, fortunately, I remembered everything from all that practice early on in my instrument training and shot the approach down to minimums without any problem... other than the 19 kt crosswind component.
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.
