im not an American but I'd love to do a orign exchange tour with the U.S.M.C.
Oh trust me the U.S.M.C. is not where you want to go, I've got friends that are Marines and they all tell me if they had it all to do over again they would of picked the Airforce or the Navy.  They said that it was fun the first few months but now its horrible and that they all hate it.

Oh yeah I have a friend that flys the AH-64, he loves it.  Hes got a snit load of books about the AH-64 that the Army gave him he was going to toss them all in the trash so I told him I would take them. ::)

Well seeing how im going to the AirForce ( which every one I bet is getting sick of me telling them) I ran across a little info that I thought was really sweet.  It appears that once you get out of your BMT(Basic Military Training) and your AIT( your teck schooling) and arrive at your duty station you can take flying lessons for almost free.  If you were just going in as a enlisted man and not as a officer to begin with it sounds like a good deal you see alot of my friends are in the military Marines, Army, AirForce and they said that the flying clubs are worth looking into if your a enlisted man. plus when your haveing the military pay for your collage so you can become a officer its a really good deal, plus it really looks good when you apply for OTS or as some have called it OCS becouse the AirForce see's that you have got your pilot ratings from them ( alittle butt kissing to get the job ya want :-* HaHaHa.  Anyone else ever here of these clubs before?

I was enlisted in the USAF in the early 80's, serving as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist (A-7's, A-10's) at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.  During my last year of service, I began flying at the Base 'Aero Club'. The flight training was not free then, and I seriously doubt that it's free at any similar recreational flight school in the military (Uncle Sam ain't THAT generous!).  However, they did offer super rental rates......the C-150 rented for $18 per hour wet, which was about $10/hour  cheaper than at contemporary civilian flight schools.

Yeah the Air Force has a pretty good set up with there flying clubs even tho you hafe to pay a small fee, its still a whole lot cheaper than going to the local airport.

Ok...I can't stand reading this anymore. Depending on what career field you go into, provided you aren't coming in open general, you'll be able to cross train after about 3 years, provided that you re- enlist. (If you've gone in open general, you'll be a Sp {MP in the Army} no questions asked.) Provided that you can pass all the tests to get into OTS and can pass the tests to be a pilot, then you'll be considered. It doesn't matter if you have any kind of flight training or ratings, you'll learn it all over again...uncle sugar's way. The Aero Clubs are by no means free, and as an enlisted, you might fly once or twice. If you're serious about flying for the military, check out the Guard/Reserve and they have all sorts of programs to become an officer. Then just major in Aviation Science and you'll be set either way. (Uncle sugar doesn't care what the degree's in, as long as you have one. Kiss all the butt you want...it doesn't help.) If I had it to do all over again, (in the USAF now) I probably would go talk to the Army of all places. Ask them about becoming a Warrent officer and fly helos. The money is better on the outside anyway, and they are harder to fly. I'm not trying to put you down, but help you out.

I'm also looking into enlisting with the USAF.  I'm going to be in Aerospace Maintenance as a Crewchief.  I already know what base I'm going to be at.  911th Airlift Wing out of Pittsburgh International Airport.  I'll be assigned to work on the later model C-130's. I can't wait to get to Pittsburgh, but am really not looking forward to Basic Training.  But its going to be worth the effort though.  I'll graduate Basic Training to Senior Airman.  All since I went to college first.  Then I get to work on airplanes!
