Flightgear is a great free flight simulator that is in current development and will soon have a download section of its own here at Simviation.

If you are not aware of Flightgear please see this page

Although Flightgear has it's own forums this board will be for Simviation users who wish to talk about Flightgear, it's current state, addons available  and the future possibilities of what is the only open source flight simulator in existence.

Great idea. I downloaded FlightGear last week. Haven't had the time to check it out really well. Looks like a great simulator.

Crash ;)

Good decision! Simviation is mainly pure FS, but there are others around, like Flight Gear! 8-)

Looks nice!

For system specs: how about handling it on a mid-level notebook? Is it compareable to FSX or are less/more ressources needed?

It is VERY efficient compared to FS so it should work nicely on your notebook ;)

What are the space and performance requirements to run this?

The main program is just over 290Mb to download, I then chucked on all the world scenery so I'm not sure. It isn't that big however.
