Buy it now, or maybe limited time offer = $97, buy it later = $197. 5 years updates free. So how much are the updates after that, and are they necessary? That is, will the software still function without any updates?

Computer requirements are shown somewhere there, any framerate type of issues?

I only took a fast look thru the website. It all looks rather awesome as advertised, and also looks like something a pilot or especially student pilot could benefit from.

For me, I'd spring for it, but I've sprung for too much lately, so I gotta wait til I become unsprung. But I've bookmarked the site so I can look thru when I have more time.

Thanks for the heads up, Shadowcaster, take a look, y'awl, and let's watch this post for more comments.

UPDATE: OK, I've taken a slightly longer look thru, including the video. The video is most impressive. Also, I did see this:

"Each year, our developers will release a newer version of ProFlightSimulator. If you purchase it today, you'll get to download the newest version each year, for 5 years."

So that's what the updates are all about. I also saw something about a Scenery Designer, where you can alter or change some aspects of scenery, maybe create your own airport, whatever.

It really does look super-awesome, almost on the unbelievable level.

My take is that if you try it, be prepared to get glued to your computer, maybe buy a small refrigerator to keep next to it, and if you're married, be prepared for "Get the heck away from that thing or I'll be seeing my attorney in the morning."

And you might want to update your "I'd rather be flying" bumper sticker.

Cheers, and thanks again for the post. We all need to keep each other informed.

My original post edit has timed out, so I'm posting this update separately, and just minutes after my original post.

Look at this video and read the comments on it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-XHEVIcrlg.

This comment was made by the guy that posted the video:
"Pro Flight Simulator is just a rip-off of a FREE flight simulator called "FlightGear".

I am leaving my original post here as it does contain quick information re: Pro Flight. As usual, and especially with anything online, Caveat Emptor.

I do not know anything about FlightGear.

More knowledgeable comments here are certainly welcome. I wasn't going to buy the software, not yet anyway, but we need be properly informed as to what it's really all about.

If a thing looks to good to be true then it usually is a ripoff.

Wasn't there something about this like 3 years ago, that was all over the flight sim forums, about it being a rip-off ???

I definetly recall something about a similar type Bogus Flight Sim, that used screen shots and video footage of Microsoft flight simulator, cut in with this sim, and users fell for it and upon getting it, was nothing like what was advertised, nor could ya' add other aircraft , scenery to it either.

and if I recall, it was the same ol' song & dance, about giving 5 year updates too.

looks like now again someones trying to pitch it again, like those infomercial guys on TV late at night.

Best do some extensive research before ya dive into it - don't be naïve & guillable !

I'd tell ya about the time this guy bought a Home Stereo system from a guy in a parking lot, still in the Box Brand New - dirt cheap too , the seller was in a Hurry - but the naïve buyer fell for it - the box felt heavy looked like brand new stuff

upon getting home with it - opened box and SHOCK - it was one of those new fangled , "Brick Stereo systems",

To this day , it still won't play any actual Tunes , sum 25 years later

All in All just another Brick in a Box

Yep, that which seems too good to be true, oftentimes is. That's why we share info here, there, and everywhere. If I buy anything via Amazon, I read the comments first. Youtube is also good for stuff sometimes. What gets me is the Pro Flight website, it's really well done.

OK, buying stereo systems in parking lots, yep, that's the way to go. Somewhere in my deep, dark, distant past some jokers tried that on me, right, like I wuz born yesterday.
I shoulda told them, "Hey, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool us musicians any of the time", but I just said no instead.

Does anyone remember the "Pet Rock"?

It was just a small river stone in a cheap, and thin, cardboard box. Holes were punched in the box for the benefit of the pet rock.

What sold it was the wonderful literature that came with it.

Back a few years ago, when I became interested in trying a flight sim, I tried FlightGear.

It wasn't bad, exactly, but FSX looked much better.

After buying FSX, I decided to try X-Plane 10. For all the "realism" that it's proponents claim, it had very little freeware out there, compared to FSX.

Oh, the quotation marks around "realism" ? Anyone with X-Plane 10, try this - Land a Cessna 172 in a lake, shut off the engine, restart the engine, and takeoff from the lake. Not a problem.

Not that X-Plane isn't a good simulator, but NONE of them are real.

After 4-5 years I'm sure that FlightGear is better today than it used to be.

So if anyone wants to try FlightGear v3.4 do it for free. The only stipulation is that if you like it you need to send me $75. That's 84.337% off the FULL price!

Today only. This is a once in a lifetime deal - DON'T HESITATE!!!

UMmmm...... Anybody want to buy a pet rock?

Time to time I install new versions of Flightgear. I't's a good sim.

Also it seems that "Pro flight" is a recurring nightmare. This is complete piracy...

Well, the site has been done very professionally!
I am gobsmacked that, when reading their customer reviews, 2x guys with the exact same names, living in 2 different places love the sim.

For fun, & something different.. Try http://www.flightgear.org/
It's free!!

I can't be the only one getting several emails per week about this!

God knows where they got my email from either.

Trying to spread the word so I put a news post on our main page.

http://simviation.com/1/proflightsim

If anyone else has had emails with other 'names' for this sim -- add them here and I'll add them to the page.

Here's how it's profitable for them.

Long story, somewhat shortened.

A couple of years ago I got an email from a lawyer in Libya (or was it Liberia?).

Someone died with no heirs and the lawyer wanted to split $5,000,000 with me. You see, he had to send the money out of Libya and just needed a bank account to send it to.

He assured me that it was all legitimate because the dead guy had no family, so why let the Libyan government take all that money.

The point? Ninety nine percent of the people had a good laugh.

But what if one percent of 1,000,000 people who got that email, replied?

1,000,000 emails times .01 = 1,000 bank accounts.

Multiply that by five or ten million emails.

So we have someone relabeling a freeware flight sim. And sending out a bunch of emails......

Do you think that the good people in Libya, of anywhere else, felt offended by the ridicule heaped upon them? No. They had the bank accounts for 1,000, or more, idiots.

Do you thing that the people relabeling the freeware will have their feelings hurt?
