When I'm on long flights, I'll often fire up iTunes so that I don't get bored. The problem is, when I click on a dialog box (settings, maps, etc), the sound from iTunes drops from a tolerable volume to an almost indistinguishable volume. Then it comes back up after a few minutes. I usually fly at night, and I don't want anyone to hear my music blaring as I desperately try to lower the volume when it does come back up. Is there any way to keep the volume at a consistent level?

Download the "FSX/FS 2004 Tracker" shown above, and you can tune your Com 2 radio to the music radio station whilst you fly.
Adjust the volume (zero to max) on the Com 2 Frequency...135.00 to 97!
Puts a "Tune Tracker" short-cut on your desktop.
Read the instructions for tuning, etc...!

I keep fsx muted (or mute everything but voices so as to not get caught with my pants down by ATC). I don't use headphones, because a gaming headset adds more wire, and my FSX area is also my workstation.

So, a question about EasternHops- does it only play local radio stations (as a radio would in real life), or can you pick any station in the world and stream it? What about Pandora, or iTunes? Can they play through it?

....it streams a selection of "pop tunes", as selected by the broadcaster of the radio station.
The object being to fly the aeroplane (safely!) whilst listening to music playing in the background, (similar to having the radio on, whilst driving the motor car).
The selection of music is made by the broadcaster.

Tuning Radio stations whilst flying a low-level Tornado at Mach 0.8 is not a good idea!... ...!

I kinda had a similar issue. if you go in to your laptops sound settings you'll probably see it is set to drop the volume of itunes for incoming calls. Mine was. I just unchecked it n everything is fine.

I think I know your problem. It's a windows feature. I haven't had time to play with it.
1. Go to your control panel
2. Go to system and sounds
3. Click on Sound
4. Go to the communications tab
5. Check 'Do Nothing'

Assuming you're running windows vista/7/8

Here's my setup for listening to music while using FS:

I have a single earpiece/ boom mic for my left ear that pipes both channels through the single earbud. It has an inline volume control to adjust the sim Volume.

For the right ear I use the same thing minus the mic, and have that plugged into my iPod. If I want to listen to a station I use my Android tablet with an app called TuneIn RadioPro that streams stations all over the world, from many genres.

I also have the LiveATC app and use that also; kind of gives a 'real world' feel listening to RW ATC traffic while simming!
