Is there a way to zoom in and out in the VC without zooming the scenery? It is a great source of irritation.
Thanks

You can try the Eyepoint keys. They are limited, but will normally allow a very close in view of the cockpit. I don't recall if they change the scenery or not. I don't use the feature, since I use 6DoF in TrackIR and it overrides the eyepoint adjustments.

You can move your eyepoint closer in the aircraft cfg. so that you don't have to adjust it everytime. It looks like this:
[VIEWS]
eyepoint= 8.5, -1.45, -1.3
Adjusting the first number in the series moves the eyepoint forward and back. It'll take some trial and error to get it just right.

When you "zoom in" when in VC you are adjusting your eyepoint view. The scenery looks closer because of this adjustment. FSX considers 100% as normal view for a person in a cockpit but as humans we have the ability to adjust our eyes for seeing close and far away plus add in peripheral vision that the sim can't match.

Rather than messing about in the cfg file trying to guess what number is just right, use the following keys to adjust your eye point in-game....
Ctrl+Enter and Ctrl+Backspace will move it horizontally forward and backwards.
Shift+Enter and Shift+Backspace will move it vertically up and down.
This of course assumes you are in the virtual 3D cockpit view. This doesn't do anything if you fly in 2D cockpit mode. Hope that helps you get "perspective" on the issue!

Thank you!
I have noticed in some planes that the eyepoint is either directly on top of the seat, or in some cases behind the seat. Since I can't use the Eyepoint keys to change it (TIR will override the keys and put center to the planes default), I can use the edit info you posted to fix them.

The reason for the cfg. edit is so that you don't have to move the eyepoint to where you like it EVERY time

I know how to, and do not want to adjust the eyepiont.
When zooming in and out the scenery zooms with the virtual cockpit. I would like to zoom the cockpit without zooming the scenery. Can this be done?
Thanks

I don't think there is way to do what you want with the Increase/Decrease Selected mode. You might try clicking on something in the cockpit and seeing if it will zoom in only on that object, but I don't think it will.
I believe moving the eyepoint is the only way to get a closer in view of the cockpit without using the zoom function. There may be mod that changes it, I've never noticed seeing one though.
TrackIR is probably your best bet. It will give you the most realistic way to look closer at the panel. It changes the eyepoint, but does so in a more natural way. You move your head closer to the screen and the closer the panels appears. It is very adjustable as to how far you move and the response you get from that movement. A little or alot, or anything in between. Plus it gives you the free look too. No need for a hatswitch to pan you view. In fact it does things a hatswitch can't do, like lean your view for one. It works extremely well in FSX.
Here is a really good video that shows much of what is possible with TIR. It will do EXACTLY what you are wanting to do

I did not think it could be done, but you never know unless you ask.
