Files out of sequence

Hey all,
I apologize if this has been covered I did a quick search but was unable to find any topic similar.

I recently did a complete new install/new machine and have been rebuilding my planes and scenery back to what I had before. I d/l a few planes today  from here and other sites (there really isn't any other are there?  ;) ) and am now noticing a few plane seem out of order in selection window. For example, the default piper J-3 Cub, now appears as a 737 that I d/l'd and when I click the 737, the piper pops up. How can I get the "thumbnail" to appear for the proper planes for those 3-4 that are out of wack?

Hi Greg.
I think this occurs when you add aircraft to FSX that don't have a "thumbnail.jpg" associated with them. Without it they are unable to display correctly in the menu.

Zaphod ;)

This usualy happens when I add new planes with the flight simulator open. Closing and reopening the Flight simulator gets them in order. When the plane does not have a thumbnail, I get a gray plane with a blue question mark for the picture but it is still listed and shows up when you click "Details".

It depends on your OS whether or not you get the generic grey plane or not. If you are using Vista, the plane will not show up and your other planes will be out of sequence.

If you're using Vista, just figure out which plane does not have a thumbnail by looking in the aircraft's texture folders. When you figure out which one it is, simply take a screenshot of it in FSX, resize it and name it "thumbnail". Then put it in the texture folder of the aircraft in question. It willl now show up in your aircraft selection menu and your sequence will be correct ;)

Yes, I am still on XP. I try to learn something new every day, but at my age, I keep re-inventing the wheel. Thank-you.

Yup that was it... I did a complete reinstall and carefully ensured all had thumbnails......Thanks

As an aside, I sure would love it if simviation could add a required field in their plane uploads as to whether or not a plane has working VC....hate it when I d/l a cool plane only to find I am staring out of a non cockpit cockpit.....or am looking directly ahead and have to use my HAT switch.
