Hi Scalper,

Yes there definitely tweaks that can improve your situation.
However, before trying to display more autogen with more distance, I would like to focus on this "vanishing" problem, because this sounds like instability, which means that increasing the workload even more might not be a good idea.

Could you provide more details about the problem, specifically how and when it happens ? We have to identify the causes first, then try to solve them.

Hi Daube..

Thanks for the reply.

Well it seems that its a distance draw thing. scenery in the tiles by the aircraft seem to be ok but when i look back form the nose of the aircraft. the tiles behind it start to unfocus and the gen and trees start disaperring. could be a draw distance thing. and some aircraft at my airport in the distance remain white, even when i pause the simulation.
so when i pause it. only the tiles nearby load and the ones in the distance still stay empty with no trees or autogen.
make any sence?

Yes.
There are two distinct problems here:
- the white AI aircrafts are from World of AI right ? There's nothing you can do about it.
- the draw distance can be increased by editing the fsx.cfg file. You'll have to increase the value of the parameter nammed "LOD_RADIUS". Push it to 6.5 for example. Be carefull, being too optimistic with the value of this tweak will result in a performance hit. 6.5 offers a good balance between distance and performance on my computer.

One other remark, about the fact that you can see tiles loading next to you when pressing Pause: this is the sign that your CPU is getting overloaded and cannot load the tiles in time. This is influenced by the video settings of the game (mainly the terrain), as well as some tweaks in the FSX.cfg.

First thing to do is to set a less optimistic value for the FPS limit in the game settings. Start at 20, see how the blurries react. If it's good, try increasing to 22, then go on.

Thanks Daube

Yes it is world of ai. crap, lol...

ok great lod radius I will change it.
my fps are set to unlimited. will change to 20.
I am not to worried about fps. I mostly take screen shots a like to look at the eye candy.

I have 4 gigs ram. and when i use fsx my mem usage only shows 56% used all the time. I also have 2 gig of video sli.

Thanks as always Daube,.

I suspect you could fix that by switching DirectX 10 Preview OFF.

and if it don't , PUt your FSX.CFG (Move it) to Example:your desktop and start FSX again ..allow FSX to Build a new FSX.CFG folder , If the problem still there delete the new folder and place back the original

With the "DirectX11 Preview" option ON, the AI planes would appear white/grey all the time. But if I understood correctly what Scalper said, they appear white only in the distance, not nearby. So I guess the problem is not with the DirectX10 preview option in this case.

Scalper, the fact that you had your FPS set on "unlimited" explains why you were getting blurries and generally late autogen and terrain details. With a real FPS limit, your results should be much better.

Also, concerning the "LOD_RADIUS", this parameter is in fact corresponding to the setting in FSX options that is nammed "detailled distance" or "LOD distance", I never remember the exact name in English. If you set it to the max in the sim, then it sets the value in the FSX.cfg to 4.5. In order to push this value "above the max", you must edit the fsx.cfg by hand. However, you have to remember that EVERYTIME you will go back to the sim settings and modify something (ANYthing), the parameter will automatically be set back to 4.5. So just keep in mind to take a look in your FSX.cfg once in a while, to check if the parameter still has the correct value.

Same goes for the Texture_max_load parameter, which defines the maximum texture resolution that FSX is allowed to display. From the sim settings, you can set it to 1024 pixel maximum, but by editing the FSX.cfg, you can push it to 4096 to display your high-res repaints properly.
