Default A321 (SAS Texture)

I am trying to install the SAS textures to the default A321 but it seems more complicated than usual, it's telling me I need to edit a config file and I have no idea how to get them fully working.

Would any one be able to help me get them installed properly? these are the textures " FSX Airbus A321 SAS SE-REG Textures  "

These are the instructions

Airbus A321 SAS SE-REG

A repaint for Microsoft Flightsimulator X (FSX)
by G. Carlbaum, Sweden, November 2006

Installation:

1. Unzip the file A321SAS.ZIP to a temporary directory.

2. Go to the folder "...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Airbus_A321".

3. Make a copy of the default folder "Texture" within the Airbus_A321 folder and paste it into the Airbus_A321 folder.

4. Rename the copied folder as "Texture.SAS".

5. Copy and paste all contents of the unzipped A321SAS.ZIP to the folder "Texture.SAS".
You will get a question if you want to replace the older files with newer ones. Click YES.

6. Open the file "aircraft.cfg" which is also located in the Airbus_A321 folder with Notepad.

7. Copy and paste the following lines under the last entry in the file "aircraft.cfg", which begins with "[fltsim.3]" and ends before the section which begins with "[General]" and rename the line "[fltsim.XX]" with "[fltsim.4]".

NOTICE: The last entry should be "[fltsim.3]" in "aircraft.cfg" if you not already have added another repaint. If this should be the case, you have to change "[fltsim.XX]" with the next following number.

What exactely is more complex than usual in this procedure ? It's pretty standard  :-?
Create a new "texture" folder, put your textures inside, and then edit the aircraft.cfg to declare this new repaint...

First he tells you to copy the default texture folder. This is because the repaint you downloaded doesn't contain ALL the textures, for saving space. So you copy the "texture" folder, and you rename that new folder "texture.SAS".

Then you take all the files inside the archive you downloaded, and you put them into the texture.SAS folder, overwritting the files that already existed.

Finally, you edit the aircraft.cfg to add a new [flightsim.x] section as usual :)

Tell me if this is not clear, which point exactely is giving you trouble.

the part  you have to copy/paste into the aircraft.cfg and name as fltsim.4 , make sure the name of the texture folder exactly matches the name of the new folder, in this case : Texture.SAS

How do you unzip .DDS files?

How do you unzip .DDS files?

.DDS files are the texture files, like .BMP files so you don't need to un-zip them.

Hi Andy, thanks for that...I was really confused..still am.

I use a program called 7-Zip and when I open the files all I get is the following..I know I am being a pain but any help would be appreciated.

Ive not been using FSX that long so I am still new to things.

In your screenshot you are displaying what I called "the content of the archive" in my previous message.
We can see one texture file (which certainly contain the colors for the fuselage of the plane), and various text files.

So once you have created the copy of the default texture folder in the A321 folder, and renamed that copy "texture.SAS", all you need to do is:
- drag the file that is highlighted in your screenshot (in blue)  and drop in in the texture.SAS folder
- edit the aircraft.cfg of the A321
- copy the last [flightsim.x] section and paste it just after
- change the 'x' to match the numbers. If the last flightsim entry was 3 just like in my A321 on my FSX (I never installed any repaints for this bird), then you should write '4'.
- change the 'title=...' to something like 'Airbus A321 SAS'
- change the 'texture=...' to 'SAS'
- change the 'ui_variation=...' to 'SAS'
and you should be good to go :)

I managed to get that all done and the textures and aircraft are now loading but the wing's are black and the tail is fine but the two wings what come off that are also black..is that me or is that a problem with the textures? also, can I put the same textures on a couple of the other A321 models?

Hmm wait, there's a problem.
If the wings are black, that means that some textures are missing.
Have you really copied the "texture" folder to create the "texture.SAS" ?

I'm going to download that package to check it.

Ok just to confirm that it works:

I have done just what I wrote in my previous messages.
I copied the texture folder, and renamed the copy "texture.SAS".
Then I moved the DDS file from the archive to the texture.SAS folder.
Then I edited the aircraft.cfg.
In the end, the new section looked like that:
Code: Select all
[fltsim.4]
title=Airbus A321 SAS
sim=Airbus_A321
model=""
panel=""
sound=""
texture=SAS
kb_checklists=AirbusA321_check
kb_reference=AirbusA321_ref
atc_id=F-X395
atc_airline=""
atc_flight_number=""
ui_manufacturer=Airbus
ui_type=A321
ui_variation=SAS
ui_typerole=Avion de ligne
ui_createdby=Microsoft Corporation
description=The Airbus A321 blablabla....

If I might make a suggestion. Open the Airbus_A321\Texture folder & take a copy of Texture.cfg. Paste this into the new Texture.SAS folder. Saves all this messing about.

I followed all the instructions, here are two print screens of what's in the folder and whats in the cfg file.

All this effort for a texture  ::)

Your first shot shows that you didn't follow the instructions correctly. However, if you follow my suggestion & paste a copy of Texture.cfg from the Airbus_A321 Texture folder into the Texture.SAS folder in your shot it will work.

It would have saved all this bother if the file had been configured like this in the first place. (Repainters please note.)

All this effort for a texture  ::)

At least you will know how to do it next time.
