FS9 a/c in FSX: LAGGY!

When I use aircraft that have been converted from FS9 into FSX they lag like the dickens. Even if they're low poly models or work fantastically in FS9, I get nowhere near a decent frame rate. Yet oddly enough, the odd aircraft will work great. What's going on?

Old format. Should be pretty self explanatory. They are FS9 models, not FSX models. FS9 models use an older format that is not supported as well in FSX's engine. Something that MIGHT help would be converting the bitmap textures to the DDS format, which loads much quicker. Doesn't change the fact that the FS9 MDL is not FSX native.

I thought that, and yes, it does make sense. But then why do roughly one out of every three-four models I try have no problems at all? And converting the textures does nothing.

I'm guessing it all depends....can be gauge coding, number of texture sheets, model complexity, etc. Different things can contribute to it.

I try out a lot of aircraft in FSX & can't say I've noticed any difference in frame rate between FS9 & 'FSX native' models. Some aircraft are far more complex than others which might cause lag. It could possibly depend on the software the FS9 model was created with - FSDS or Gmax.
