I have just joined and downloaded four different aircraft. On attempting to install, I clicked on the installer package, and had a box open telling me the above, and to obtain a new file from the apllication author. Four files cant all be faulty it must be me what am I doing wrong please.
Many thanks in advance.
Pete

HI Pete. I suspect the file you're trying to run is not an installer package but a MSFS AIR file. FS AIR files define the flight dynamics of the aircraft. I think my reply in this topic will explain it. http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1323613165

These aircraft will need installing manually. You might find this tute helpful. http://simviation.com/1/fsxinstall

Hi Hagar, Thanks for your words, I have tried as you suggest to the extent that the aircraft appear in the select aircraft menu in my FSX, however when I select the aircraft I get the following message " Failed to start up flight model, with an exclamation mark and a close option"
By the way with each of the problem aircraft I am trying to open what is clearly shown as an installer file.

Many thanks fro any help.
Pete

Pete. I'm 99.9% certain those files are FS AIR files & not installers. If you don't believe me open the folder of any default aircraft & you will see the same "Installer Package" files.

If you tell me file names of the aircraft you're having problems with & the pages they're posted on (or a link to the page) I can download them & check them out for you.

I wont argue with a Colonel, so taking what you say as a given, I still cant get the aircraft to work. I have several that I have added to FSX no problem but these last couple for example the FSND-MD83 whilst showing in the FSX aircraft selection when selected produces the following message " failed to start up flight model ".
I get this message with four different aircraft that I have downloaded. The fifth the A DHC3 installed normally. I sincerely appreciate your help in this matter.
Kind regards
Pete

I wont argue with a Colonel,

The number of posts has no bearing on this.

the FSND-MD83 whilst showing in the FSX aircraft selection when selected produces the following message " failed to start up flight model ".

Which version of FSX are you using? The FSND MD83 has no auto-installer. If it's listed on the selection menu it sounds like you've installed it correctly. It's a "true FSX" model & will only work properly in FSX + SP2 (or Acceleration).

I get this message with four different aircraft that I have downloaded.

I sincerely appreciate your help in this matter.

I can't do any more unless you can tell me which aircraft you're having problems with.

I can only assume you didn't install the MD83 properly. It was created by a member of this forum (Alex aka alrot) & has been thoroughly tested by other members.

I can't find a Beagle Basset posted at Simviation. Any chance of a link to the download page?

Good Luck. I found the Basset & downloaded it to check it out. Like the MD83 it has no installer so has to be installed manually. That should be straightforward enough. The common denominator here is that they're both "true FSX" models. I don't know if that has any bearing on your problem.

Hey , how about taking some Screen shots of your files you have and posting them on here, so we can see , something , that'd be a big help too !! I do hope you know - you have to OPEN up that ZIP folder that you downloaded , then maybe, depending on the Creator of the aircraft , also have to open a few more folders to get to the actual Aircraft folders & files - till you get to this folders that will say - Model / Panel / Sound / Texture / CFG file below all those and usually another brown looking file installer file below the CFG file. close them all up and get back to the 1  folder previous to that and right click and hit COPY ,, then go to your MAIN AIRCRAFT folder and right click & hit paste and it should show up and load up & fly properly , just wanna make sure your NOT trying to "Inject" a Zipped Folder into your main flight sim Aircraft folder - it won't work if its a ZIP FOLDER ~ !!!!!   I install ALL My aircraft manually and inspect each and every file before its ever INJECTED into my FSX GOLD Acceleration edition , and I remove / delete / or save all un-necessary folders & files that don't have anything to do with the Aircraft flying ability - such as - Diz files - read me files PDF Files extra photos or Extra thumbnail photos -  I only want the BARE BONES of whats truly necessary to make the aircraft fly in that "AIRCRAFT folder" section and none of the Aircraft rely on any PDF File or Diz files or read me files or any extra thumbnail files - all that extra stuff is redundt and just takes up valuable space , I recently went thru and cleaned up & out All 147 of my Aircraft files and I was amazed at how much space all those PDF Files and read me files and Diz files were taking up - add them all up in size, and whooof - quite a bit of space they were invading on your hard drive - kinda like extra dust around your house or extra junk food left over in your refrigerator - time for it to go, save the important stuff to another location and TRASH the rest !!! good luck !! :-X :-X Image

As an added note : wanna open up your TEXTURE folder - and make sure you have a file in there that says "THUMBNAIL",, and its in JPG format fairly small , not very big,,, or the Aircraft won't show up in your FSX Aircraft preview menu section,, you only need 1 photo thumbnail of that particular aircraft !  :-X

Just to reference jetrangers keep or trash comment. The "aircraft"c_check and c_ref are for the information that shows up in the kneeboard, aren't they? I personally like this to show in my sim and would not think of getting rid of them.
