Duxford scenery

Scenery is obviously one of my weak points! I downloaded what looks like a phenomenal scenery for IWM Duxford, but despite following the instructions, I can't get it to install properly. I tried both auto and manual installations without success. The only app I had open was Explorer, so that I could find the files.  I'm running Vista with FSX + Acceleration, and FSX SP1 & SP2 installed.

Let me start from the beginning, as it's quite probable I'm doing something wrong somewhere.

1. After unzipping the main file I get a folder called AGC IWM Duxford FSX which contains a variety of files

2. I launch the main Duxford exe file which starts the auto-installation, but then after going through various screens tells me it can't complete the installation.

3. Same happens with the AI file.

When I tried to follow the "manual-installation" instructions, I was unable to do as recommended as there do not appear to be any sub-folders when you unzip the main (downloaded) file, only the files mentioned above which do not seem to be zip files, so I was unable to really proceed with a manual installation.

Any advice would he much appreciated - especially when I see the fabulous screen shots which were recently published.  :D

Many thanks.

Hi there. I've just tried the Duxford scenery package & it works fine for me. I'm on XP & suspect your problem might be with the Vista security features.

To do a manual install you need to run the auto-installers & redirect the install path to a suitable location anywhere on your PC. I suggest creating a new folder on your Desktop & rename it FSX. Then point the installers at it during the installation. All the files should then be installed to this folder. Please tell me if this helps.

I don't know if Vista has the same directory locking issues as Windows 7 but if so you can try this

Dear All,
Thanks for the various hints and tips, particularly Hagar's.  :) That one solved the problem, which was due to the loader .exe file being unable to create the "Uninstall" file. It did it OK on the desktop, but refused categorically to do it in the "real" FSX directory.  :( Maybe it has to do with the Vista security system as Hagar said. Good call, thanks again.
