Ok, I know I'm not the only one with this issue.  I searched around the net and was surprised at the number of people experiencing problems with FSX and Windows 7 64bit.

I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate.  Even after a clean install of both Windows 7 and FSX, I would get CTD's.  Sometimes I can fly for hours before getting a CTD but sometimes it happens when I'm taxiing or taking off.  It's really frustrating and it prevents me from enjoying FSX as much as I'd like.

I installed FSX Gold correctly (defrag and rebooting).

I tried placing the Vista UIAutomationcore.dll into my FSX main folder, like many people recommend, but it didn't seem to do anything. 

I just finished installing SP1 for my Win 7 Ultimate and the latest Catalyst drivers (11.9).  If that doesn't fix my problems, I think I will go for a different OS.

Can anybody tell me what OS will run FSX ROCK SOLID?  Should I look into Vista or XP? 32 or 64 bit?

I run the UTX and GEX series add ons, as well as Ultimate Traffic 2, Audio Environment and FEX from Flight 1.  My aircraft add ons are CLS.

Win 7 Ultimate
AMD 955BE oc'd to 4Ghz
8G ram
60G SSD (OS) / 500G HDD (FSX and add ons)
ATI 4670

I run FSX on XP and it runs quite well, although once in a while it crashes with the message "Flight Simulator X has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

32-bit is fine since FSX only uses 2GB RAM.

I run 7 and I get that message too.

It doesn't really depend on the operating system, more of the kind of computer.  In my opinion FSX is more stable on Windows 7, but that is just my observation

take a look at my signature. it has all of my information so I dont have to retype it.  once in a while starting Plan-G, or FaceTrackNoIr, or looking at a webpage, i get the same error message.

there are just glitches that will happen from time to time.  If you are experiencing them more and more. cut back on your sliders.  Mine are set at 1/2 and im getting a stable 20FPS

Sorry for the delay, guys.  I think I solved the problem but wanted to keep flying a few more days before getting back to you, just to make sure.

I took a look at my RAM sticks and noticed that the heat sink was peeling off on one of them.  So I removed it, and since doing this, I havne't been able to make FSX CTD.  Before it was happening too often.  For example, if I were to fly for 2 hrs, it would CTD AT LEAST once. 
So far, I've put over 12 hrs without a single CTD.  It did freeze on me on one flight for less than 10 mins (audio still working).  I just left it alone and it un-froze itself, so I was able to continue and finish my flight.

I'm so happy that I can enjoy my flights now instead of worrying about sudden and unexpected CTD's and BSOD's

So I just have one more question... When I looked at the RAM, I noticed their speed is 1066.  Would a faster one, say 1333 or 1600 improve performance?  How many gigs should I go for?  My mother board is a gigabyte 770T-USB3 and the rest of my system is at the end of my original post.
I use GEX, UTX, FEX, UT2, etc.

I also plan to get a GTX460.

go for the 8Gig of ram (whatever kind you already have) but 1333 or 1600 would be better than 1066. 

As you can see in my Signature.. I have 4Gig DDR3 1333mHz

RAM is so cheap these days - the performance difference between 4gb and 8gb might be small but then again, it's so cheap so why not?

I think some Phenom II steppings have difficulty running DDR3-1600 so it might be best to stick with DDR3-1333. However, I have never had any interest in the Phenom II so I wouldn't know for sure.

I remember reading something about that somewhere and had completely forgotten about it until you brought it up.

I will get 1333.  Just some new RAM, a GTX470 and I think I'm done for at least a few years lol.
