why did you have to reinstall FSX to begin with?

Usually a 'phone call to MS support gets things like this sorted
I've known a few pwople who could not re activate and they seem to always be helpful.

In Win 7 one thing that often causes issues is installing FSX into the "default" directory.  Everything I have read says create a different directory outside of the "Program Files" normal destination.

See if that helps.

I just built a new computer and FSX loads fine on win 7 64 - trouble is many other games I play will not....although I am having difficulty with Victoria scenery latest build for FSX - I get an error code. I know this doesn't help - but FYI I did have to phone windows support for a new fsx activation..... good luck - it will get figured out. Perhaps phone the support number and get a new activation code.

Bleh, online activation of a paid product is the worst sin ever devised by man.  Its one of the reasons why I held off buying FSX for oh, 3 years.  It feels like getting stabbed in the back by someone you know.  There are... *cough* ways */cough* ways to get through it, though I'll probably be crucified for even the slight mention of it.

In any case, you might want to try clearing your registry with a registry cleaner (I use a freeware called CCleaner) before reinstalling and see if that helps.  Sometimes reinstalling gets messy, and leaves a few unwanted entries in your registry that makes reinstalling go haywire.

You don't have to be online to register FSX, when I did mine i didn't have internet at that time.
It was a free phone call to MS automatic system in the UK, a bit long winded but faultless, and since my original install on XP I've installed on win7b64 bit -

I've said before, doesn't make any difference about where you install fsx, installing to default location.has always worked without failure by letting it.

Of course it will install, Steve. That's not the issue with using the "default" path to begin with.

The problem(s) will show up later on when you begin trying to modify files within that excessively protected path.

it must be just me then, I don't have trouble with uac on or off but then I have taken 'ownership' of the 'effected' folders.

Personally win7 is a pain.

I had a similar problem with a re-install.  The on-line option refused to authenticate, and when I called customer support, an automated phone system took the authetication code, then an automated voice told me that I was trying to authenticate some other program, not FSX, and then I was cut off.  Another call to the help line, plus insisting on talking to a real human, did the trick.  The nice lady on the other end gave me a new code, totally diffetrent from what came with the product, and things worked just fine after that.
