FSX Crashing in Window 7

I recently purchased a gaming PC with 8G RAM and 1T hard drive matched with a powerful graphics card. The PC came with Windows 7. After about 10 minutes, on average, FSX goes black. Nothing I do brings it back, except to close and restart it. I gather others are having a similar problem. Has anyone figured out a workaround to solve it?

Is your version properly registered?

Sounds like the time-out thingie.

Most definitely registered. It, and Acceleration and all payware planes. I was able to fly for literally hours on end when using an XP-based PC.

Did you re-register when you moved it onto the new PC?

Good question. Yes, I did. Acceleration would not launch unless FSX was registered. After installing and registering FSX, I downloaded SP1 and installed it. Then I installed and registered Acceleration. Program works great for 10 minutes or so and then it decides it just doesn't want to work anymore. I have had to adopt the tedious technique of saving the flight every so often, so that I don't have to keep going back to the beginning. I'm beginning to look forward to Flight with more interest and hopeful enthusiasm.

SP1 and SP2 are included with Acceleration.........maybe installing SP1, and then Acceleration screwed somethin' up..........just a thought :)

Chuck's link has it spot on.

The SPs and Acceleration do not play nice together if/when installed together.

I found that out the hard way a long time ago.  The problem I had though was an unfixable fatal startup error.

chuck is correct, installing sp1 is why its crashing, like chuck said its included in the acceleration pack expansion,if it still crashes after that then this is what will fix it works for most people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaQ4fPH79c0

Well, never let it be said that there is nothing new to learn. I had long been led to understand that SP! had to be loaded first and then Acceleration. I will uninstall FSX, reinstall it and just install Acceleration.

Film at eleven...

Thanks for the insight.

Nope. Didn't work. As a matter of fact, I got kicked out sooner.  Not having much fun. Hope Flight can handle Windows 7 better than FSX does.

Your not running the kiosk are you?
That gives you limited flight.

Mine runs fine installing to default location but others seem to have problems at time.
Install fsx where you want it to be and see if that improves it.

I have to 'fess up to some "igernance." What do you mean by "kiosk?" I used the standard installation procedure. Should I try installing FSX in some location other than Microsoft Games?

Thanks for staying with me on this. Maybe the conversation will help others as well.

There are two .exe files for fsx, you wouldn't normally be running Kiosk so it shouldn't be that.

Kiosk is like a demo mode and is limited with a time limit.
In your fsx folder you should find kiosk.exe as well as fsx.exe.

It gives you a feel for what fsx is about, let's say you took your system to a school to demo it but you didn't wnat 1 person to just sit on the pc and not let others use it, you can limit the time.

Try running it and see if you still have  a time limit.

Read the fsx manual/help about it.

OK Jim, as far as your atc volume, I'm fairly certain it's one of the environment volume settings but right now not in front of pc, I'm at work :)

I think it's under options/settings/sound????
