3D?

Hi

If I had all the right hardware and glasses, would FSX be in 3D? I'm just curious.

Stereoscopic 3D is possible with all the FS versions... or at least since FS2002, that I know... but it has the drawback that, beside requiring not-quite-cheap additional hardware you have an inevitable performance hit, even if you employ overpowered video cards (though on these, the loss of performance is obviously less noticeable)...

...that is, unless you go for the bi-chromatic glasses, but this system is falling in disuse because of lower video quality, if compared to the liquid crystal shutter glasses (and the Nvidia drivers doesn't seem to support it anymore either).

There's a third system that use polarized light, the same systems used in movie theaters, but its costs on PC systems make the shutter LCD systems look cheap in comparison.

Personally, have looked at a demo stand 3D stereo LCD glasses once, to look at a 3D song video clip and didn't like it much... seemed like a lot if bi-dimensional figurines were capering on a really deep stage, making for comical results. Stereoscopy still need maturation before really deserving attention, IMO. ;D

Is stereoscopic 3D the same as 3D computer graphics?

So if I have a GTX 590, a 3D monitor and 3D glasses, will FSX be in 3D?

FSX is fantastic in 3d! I have a GTX 580 and Acer GD235HZ monitor and Nvidia compatable glasses with a Windows 7 system.

.. in short, yes.  If all of your hardware is 3d compatible, and you have the correct glasses, YES, FSX will be 3d.
