Dead FSX Install?

Hello strangers!  - Long time no post.... :o

I work away for the majority of my time, so these days my PC simming is somewhat limited.

I decided to have a flight on FSX this morning after way too long of being grounded, trouble is, I click on my FSX shortcut (be it from the desktop, start menu or the game folder) and it does nothing. :(

I have it installed on a Solid State Hard Drive along with Battlefield 2 & Bad Company 2 (both of which run fine) and nothing else.

I have a GTX 260 896MB, Q8500 CPU, 4GB DDR2 1066 I am still on XP Sp3.

Out of curiosity, I have installed CFS2 which runs without issue.

The FSX install is stock, no add on planes, nothing (no time these days  :-[ )

I'm guessing my simplest option is to nuke it & start again?

:)

That's what I would do.

How about something as simple as renaming your fsx.cfg file first before you uninstall/reinstall, could be corrupted.

That's a good idea, too.

Could also be a flight/aircraft/scenery that is being called via the .cfg files thats missing or corrupt, just an idea

Thanks for the reply's guys.

I tried renaming fsx.cfg to no avail. - Its a relatively fresh install so perhaps it's just corrupted somehow?

Stuck FS9 on earlier, that runs sweet as a nut too.

Re-install & start again I think.

Thanks.  :)

Hmm, the plot thickens.

After a re-install (of FSX) the problem remains. It simply won't launch.

Any suggestions?

Maybe it's a currupt disk? Any scratches, smudges, or other visible defects?

Do your windows update but only select what applies to your pc/laptop.

If FSX Gold, reboot and start fsx inbetween each fsx package you install.
Although I have had no trouble on my win 7 64bit, some people do have trouble, try turning OFF the UAC in control panel/user accounts, prob best if you turn this off, uninstall and re-install again.

If FSX Gold:
Install the fsx, (not in program files (86) tho that is where mine is) reboot, restart fsx, loadup default flight, maybe even take off then exit fsx.
Install the Acceleration pack and updates and do same again, start fsx, fly and exit so that fsx rebuilds it's databases again.

If not FSX Gold, install FSX then search on Microsoft FSInsider for the service pack updates.

Otherwise afterwards with UAC turned ON, run fsx as administrator, right click on the FSX icon and select run as admin.

What happens if you install on a physical hard drive?

Thank you EVVFCX for the reply. :)

I have regular FSX (i.e. non acceleration) so I've installed FSX with patches from FS insider (I'm fairly adept at this normally!) with no issues on a physical drive and it seems to work just fine! ??

Thing is, "micro stutter" has returned, which is annoying as the whole idea behind the SSD was to eliminate this.

What puzzles me most is previously I've had FSX running beautifully on the SSD, for some reason, no longer....

I'm assuming it must be something to do with my SSD, that said, everything else runs perfectly - and loads quickly due to the SSD.

Any thoughts appreciated. :)

if you are running Windows 7, there are multiple areas that you have to delete files from.   .. thanks MICRO$OFT!!!

FSX ROOT FOLDER

START > Documents > Flight Simulator X Files -- (Your Flight Plans are saved here)

Start > My Computer > C: > Users > (user name) > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > FSX   -- This is where your FSX.CFG is located

you have to make sure that all of those files are off of your computer as well as the registry entry.  TAKE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN EDITING THE REGISTRY, AS IF YOU DELETE SOMETHING BY ACCIDENT, IT COULD MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!

Start > type in "regedit" in the search box.  look in::

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Microsoft Games > 10.0

Delete that entry.   and close REGEDIT.   Reboot your system, and try to reinstall Flight Sim
