monitor question

It looks as though my computer monitor is finally fading to the point that I will have to replace it. I was wondering if I could get some recommendations in reference to what others are using and if a widescreen would work right? Obviously I want as big a monitor as I can get, but I think I have heard that the widescreen causes some problems? The only thing I use the computer for is Flight sim (and the web). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know nobody is having problems using a wide-screen monitor with FSX. I'm using a 24" ViewSonic wide-screen with no problems. I get great screen-shots.

i have a 15.6 widescreen on a laptop. Resolution set to 1366x768 x32 . I fly FSX and FS9 with no problems (other than an occassional jitter now and then, but that is coming from my 256mb on the vid card).
The only "slight" problem that I have is "Panel Stretching". You will need to play around with the resolution settings a tiny bit to find that ABSOLUTE HAPPY SPOT, but you might incur the dreaded letterbox black bars. Once you start flying with the Panel Stretching turned on for a while, you dont even notice it anymore.
ok ok ok, now i know you are asking yourself, and are about to ask me, "And just where in the hell do i turn on Panel Stretching!?" ...... its in your FSX.CFG File that is burried in your computer in the Hidden Documents.
[PANELS]
IMAGE_QUALITY=1
DEFAULT_VIEW=1
QUICKTIPS=1
PANEL_OPACITY=100
PANEL_MASKING=1
PANEL_STRETCHING=1
UNITS_OF_MEASURE=0

Great. Thanks for the info. And your right! I would have been asking where the "panel stretching" settings were.

When I read your wanting to use a 'wide screen" I thought you were on about a flat screen TV, I have an XP machine hooked up to my 48 inch ( I use it mainly for streaming football games that are normally PPV here in Canada) I have FSX loaded, not accelerator ( the vid card won,t take it) but other than that FSX works fine. ( I dont use it all the time, I have one of those wifes who likes corry and other stupid TV progs) so I use the 17.5 inch laptop, which gives fantastic results, just though Id pass a comment...Cheers

Make sure you choose a monitor with a 1920*1080 resolution.

A bit of warning though.
If you go for a bigger screen, wide or not, you'll have to play with a higher game resolution. This will be increased work for your video card. If your video card is old, it might be a problem.
Recent video card have no problems at all playing with resolutions like 1680x1050 or even 1900x****, but for older video card with small amount of memory, it will be problematic.
