hello: I know this been asked alot of times in forums but just humor me ok, thanks. I know this is a duplicate of fsx running in w7. I was going to post in someones elses thread but I did not, I did not want to but in into other members posts so I post my own here. I hear too many conflicted reports saying yes fsx will run ok in w7 premium and others no it will not run. so I need to clear that up before moving on and make  my mind up and take a risk whats the worst possible thing will happen if it did not run on w7 premium??   

I too will get a new computer with w7 64 bit premium. since I have a concern that my fsx standard will not run on this computer I contacted microsoft. I asked micorsoft if fsx standard will work in w7 64 bit and they told me yes  the fsx standard will work in w7.  they did not tell me which version of w7 since theres 3 versions of w7. I'm hoping it will work in  w7 premium. if this is true or not what I'm I suppose to do for example ok I got my new  computer do I load the fsx as I normally do or is there some trick to this? and something about x86; fsx own directory; fsx own hd; some one needs to explain how to do this please. would a external harddrive will do for  fsx? also how about when I download the planes and scenery like airports there must be a trick to get that working also.

I'm running fsx gold on win7 premium 64 bit without any trouble.
It's installed in the default program file (x86) folder.

If ms say fsx standard will work you'll have to trust em.

FSX runs fine in Win7 64 bit. But don't install it in program files or program files (x86). If you only have one drive, just install it in C:/ drive. A secondary drive would be even better, but not essential. One of the most important things is to turn off UAC.

I have FSX installed to the Program Files (x86) folder and have no problems. What is the reason for not installing it there?  :-?

i wish someone would say where they heard this about uac and don't install in default, i have no trouble at all

Apart from what I read on these forums I have no knowledge of Vista/Win7. I can only repeat advice from people who know about these things like NickN, Bill Leaming (Fr Bill), Opa etc. To avoid common problems with installing addons on Vista/Win7 the general consensus seems to be to install MSFS to a location outside the default Program Files directory - on a separate drive if possible. This does not only apply to FSX. Steve Halpern of Flight 1 software explains it much better than I can. http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=vista#uac

I'm still on WinXP but having recently purchased a new PC I had a separate drive fitted specially for FSX. All I can say is that it installed first time with no problems at all & runs very nicely indeed. My own FSX root directory is E:\FSX

I must add that I would never advise anyone to uninstall FSX for the sole purpose of re-installing it to another location. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

and keep my primary hard drive as an operating hard drive with my programs files and my op system on it.

Depends on the drive speed and the speed of the connection from the external drive to the computer. I have an external USB drive but I don't think the connection is fast enough to try running

games on it. If you don't have a secondary internal drive, just put it on your C:/ drive but not in Programs or Programs (x86). But like Hagar said, if you already have it installed in Programs (x86)

and it is working, don't uninstall it just to move it.
