any way to speed up the loading times of ground textures?

any way to speed up the loading times of ground textures?

Postby michaelb15 » Tue Feb 15, 2011 3:58 pm

I have all the texture sliders maxed(exept water) and also have the global texture resolution maxed,

(but the slider for Level of Detail radius on medium)

but if I fly more then 150 or so mph the ground textures, and autogen starts to lag behind me, and the textures under, and infront of me have not fully loaded and remain very blurry, even though the textures a mile or 2 behind me are nice and crisp.

I would much rather have the textures behind me to be dropped and fogotten about, and have the ones infront/under me have priority in loading. is there any way to do that?

I dont have a great computer as of todays standards, but it holds its own with most the sliders in the higher quality end, and its still able to produce 15-25 fps.

The only thing I cant really have turned up too high is water effects. but I can live with that. :)

thanks for reading :) hope there can be a solution as its really irritating to have to pause the game for 30 secs to let textures load lol.
I am somwhere I don't know where I am!!!

Your settings are set too high for your hardware.  You can either lower your sliders, or spring for a hot-snot graphics card, which *may* help.  My old computer did the same thing, anything over 300 knots would over-run the auto-gen.

Posting your system specs would help.

Unless you have a 'super' computer you're sorta stuck.

as i said its a few years old..

its a pendium D 2.8ghz dual core, with 2 gig ram, a nvidia 8600 with 512 mb memory, and it runs on win XP.. I have a 320 gb hdd, and I forget exactly what kinda Mobo, but its from the same era as everythin else in the rig.

I was fooling around with the settings and found that with the FPS locked at a lower rate (20 instead of 26fps) the autogen & ground textures load a lil quicker.

but yea I gotta save up for some new computer parts its been a while since ive got anythin for under the hood  ;D

With a 2.8 ghz dual core, it looks like the choke point is your vidoe card.

CPU isn't fast enough to keep up and draw the ground. Try lowering CPU load.... e.g. lowering autogen and level of detail radius, most things in the scenery tab in settings, and lower Ai. A framelock of 20 helps too.

For best experience you want a fast quad core, however.

I don't believe a Pentium D is anywhere near enough to run FSX.

I still occasionally fight blurries and texture lag on my computer.  There are some tweaks you can do, such as the "Fiber frame time fraction" which you can manipulate a bit which might help clear some things up...but on a Pentium D, I just don't think that is going to help much.

Hello Guys,

I have been "playing" with flight simulator for the (Oh, my God") last 30 years, yes guys, I started with it in the mid  80's, so to avoid you all any desapointment, let me tell you the rule for  Microsoft Flight Simulator, the only computer that could run this game with all sliders maxed out and with a reasonable and steady 24 FPS even when flying over  the last fully detailed lansdscape released, will be on sale in two year from now (maybe) and this at a price that no one having some thing else to do with its money (feed his /her family for example) could never afford.

So please guys, simply forget to max out the sliders and be modest, and avoid to fly over large cities with plenty of buildings .

But, please keep flying, that's much better than "shoot them all" !

regards from France.
