It's been forever since I have posted here. My poor computer died back in June and I have been without my FS since. I just got this new one (specs below) and I need to know if there is any thing special I should do to install fsx on this new rig. I have to call for reactivation and I plan on putting it on the sim on the extra HD I put in. This is a 64bit system. Any help will be appreciated.

First of all, you should get your Windows up to date. That will start with Windows Update, then it will continue with manual updates for Java runtimes, DirectX runtimes, C++ runtimes and .NET framework.
Only then, you computer will be a suitable base for installing FS
A dedicated drive for FSX is a god idea too. Don't install FSX on the same drive as the operating system.

Ok, now it's installed. A few more questions. where is the fsxconfig file located on win 7 and how do I make the default flight where I last left left off

i.e. parked up at KLAX or whatever...

Now save your flight and there is a check box that says 'make this the
default flight'

Those accesses to files will slow down the accesses that the sim needs. If you install your sim on another hardrive, then the accesses made by the OS will not impact the accesses made by the sim, so it will be faster.

As far as the default flight, I used to just be able to close the flight sim without saving and when I started it again, it took me start to where I left off

internal (if you have 2 Harddrives) or external is fine.  as long as it is not on the C:

No ! I think the file transfer speeds and access times are much too slow with external drives.
