Got a new computer...now what

It's been forever since I have posted here. My poor computer died back in June and I have been without my FS since. I just got this new one (specs below) and I need to know if there is any thing special I should do to install fsx on this new rig. I have to call for reactivation and I plan on putting it on the sim on the extra HD I put in. This is a 64bit system. Any help will be appreciated.

First of all, you should get your Windows up to date. That will start with Windows Update, then it will continue with manual updates for Java runtimes, DirectX runtimes, C++ runtimes and .NET framework.
Only then, you computer will be a suitable base for installing FS :)
A dedicated drive for FSX is a god idea too. Don't install FSX on the same drive as the operating system.

I've always heard this, but what is the reason for it?

C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

or it might be

C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Microsoft\FSX

or

or click start type "%appdata%" without quotes, press enter

Start your flight that you want as default.
i.e. parked up at KLAX or whatever...

Now save your flight and there is a check box that says 'make this the
default flight'

Your operating system still runs while you play. The operating system is always active of course :) Sometimes, in fact quite frequently, the OS has to use the hardrive, in order to read or write some files. Those accesses to files will slow down the accesses that the sim needs. If you install your sim on another hardrive, then the accesses made by the OS will not impact the accesses made by the sim, so it will be faster.

As far as the default flight, I used to just be able to close the flight sim without saving and when I started it again, it took me start to where I left off

Oh, and I found the fsxconfig file. I forgot to click "show hidden files"

No ! I think the file transfer speeds and access times are much too slow with external drives.
Internal drives only, in my opinion.
