When you are doing Free flight, are the buildings, mountains, and things of that sort, supposed to be flat or are they supposed to be 3D?

Usually 3D unless you are flying over photo-real scenery that excludes autogenerated scenery like trees and buildings.  Also, if you have your "Scenery Object" sliders set very low, all you will see is ground textures which have "flat" trees and buildings.

If you were flying "Missions", and had 3D trees and buildings, I think whatever the settings were when the original mission was recorded are used.

Do you have Autogen turned on? Try setting Autogen and Scenery Complexity to Dense in your graphics settings.

Perhaps a screenshot would better show what you are talking about?

Free flight shouldn't affect the graphics, as far as I know....

As with the replies, it may be a FSX set up issue. Go to the top of this forum "FSX" and look for the first sticky post by NickN.

That's because you didn't set the graphics in ''ultra''
