Winter Flying

Good morning all... :)

Is there anyway to turn the rivers and lakes to ice/snow covered for the winter in FSX or FS2004?

When the snow is on the runway I can see the snow blow during the takeoff run but I am wondering if we land on a unprepared strip with a ski equipped aircraft how I can see the tracks in the snow.  Is this possible?

Perhaps something for MSFlight to look at... ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Doug,

The shift from water to ice is specific to a scenery, it's not something that will happen in default scenery.

For example, in OrbX PNW, the lakes and rivers do freeze progressively when winter is approaching. You can land on them, I believe the surface is the same as snowy surfaces.

Holger Sandmann developed a way to freeze lakes and rivers for Glacier Bay v2, for FS9.

Roger Wensley used that technique to create an addon that does the same for all of Canada.

I don't know if he uploads his files here, but they can be found at Avsim and Flightsim.

I also don't know if they will work in FSX.

cheers,
Joe
