Came across this little tidbit on the Wiki for MS flight simulator series:

"Lockheed Martin Prepar3D 1.0
In 2009, Lockheed Martin announced that they had negotiated with Microsoft to purchase the Intellectual Property (including source code) for the Microsoft ESP product. Microsoft ESP was the commercial-use version of Flight Simulator X SP2. On May 17, 2010,[7] Lockheed announces that the new product based upon the ESP source code is called "Prepar3D" (pronounced "Prepared"). The product is rebranded for Lockheed Martin and is backwards compatible with the previous Flight Simulator X SP2 and ESP v1.0 products. Lockheed have hired some members of the original ACES studio to continue development of the product. The product will be released later in 2010 for sale directly from the Prepar3D website. Potential users and developers are able to pre-register for evaluation versions."

$499.00?  Well, obviously it's not aimed at the casual  MSFS user......     ::)

Video looks like what can be simply downloaded from SimV. :P
So what is different to the standard FSX?

Wow, this looks cool.  ;) I'll bet some evening I have one too many beers and the next day I'll owe visa 500 bucks. I didn't see what kind of system you need though.   8-)

I'm guessing it's more geared to actual training, big-time.  That, and actually being able to submerge in a sub.  I'd be willing to bet it also would have actual orbital capabilities.  But I agree, the graphics do not seem to be any better than a good FSX machine would produce.  But in the military sim world, the outside-the-cockpit does not always get the attention that the inside-the-cockpit gets, unless it's a specialized environment, like taking out a specific building at a specific location.  In cases like that, they custom build the scenery.
