Welcome to SimV. :)

Extract the contents of the .zip file to a folder on your desktop. Copy and paste the contents to FSX/Simobjects/Aircraft. If there is a separate gauges and/or effects folder, copy the contents of those to their respetive folders in FSX.
i.e.
C5.zip extracted to Desktop/C5
C5/Aircraft/C5 (containing the texture, .air, .cfg files, etc. copy to FSX/Simobjects/Aircraft

C5/gauges (containing various gauge files) copy to
FSX/Gauges

C5/effects (containing various effects files) copy to
FSX/Effects

Go flying.

If the DL did not come with a separate "guage" folder, don't worry about that, since that either means it uses default guages, or the guages are in the aircraft "panel" folder.

From your post, it looks like you installed it correctly. Make sure you are looking for the C-5A in the selection page under the manufacturer name, and not for "C-5A".

Also, which DL?  Is there a C-5A for FSX?

PS, there is an edit button on the upper right of your posts.

Can you post a link to the plane in question? Usually the downloads come with readme files that explain the installation procedure. If the question mark you are referring to is in the aircraft selection section that could simply mean there is no thumbnail for the plane but if you click on it, the plane will still show up as a 3D preview and work just fine. Look at the contents of the default planes folders and you can get a pretty good idea of what the folder should look like. The texture folders are for the different liveries and so on and they DO belong in the airplane/simobjects folder. Hope my explanation helps.

And welcome to these forums. I remember when I was green too.  :)

ok I looked in the manufacturer and has the c5a listed as lockheed clicked on lockheed and came up with a plane with a question mark on top of it now what went wrong.

Nothing.  Apparently you are installing a fs9 add-on, which does not have the "thumbnail.jpg" that shows up on the selection page. If there is no thumbnail, that is usually what you get.

Did you sellect that and see if the C-5A ould come up in the sim before you did the following...

moved c5a textures folder to textures section under effetcs. moved jmsmith textures to the same place and thats it.

Why? Delete the C-5a you installed in FSX, and reinstall the c-5a, but leave all te folders and files in the C-5A folder *in* the c-5a folder.

I would like help if someone can show me what I did wrong  so I can do this by my self eventually.

The instructions given before should have done the trick.

hello to all to reply to this post  I do not know what I'm saying right now  have fun reading this its confusing even for me sorry do not know how to put in words yet I see the problems but explaining them in words in this post I do not know I took alot of everybodys time for answering this post  but if I'm confused I know you will be so just give up on this post.

the c5a in question was made for fs2004, the c5a came from aviationexplorer.com that made planes for use in 2004,fsx.I can get the c5a onto my runway and everything but need to change I might delete the c5a files and start over. the othe issue is I cannot find word pad for sound. I will let you know how its going.

Hi bombardier. I see you read my reply to your email. The aircraft is the C-5A by Mike Stone. It's an FS9 file that hasn't been modified for FSX. This is the reason I suggested downloading files from sites like Simviation in future.

the othe issue is I cannot find word pad for sound.

You can edit cfg files in Notepad. This is explained in my Windows Basics article. http://www.simviation.com/lair/windows.htm

hello hagar:

I guess that was my mistake I should have checked on what flight sim would work on. what I'm going to do is to delete the c5a files and I saw a c5m super galaxy canadian air force on simviation downloads it says made for fs 2004 been updated for fsx so this should work.

hey hagar  do I do the same thing to all of the c5m files and move them to simobjects and then aircraft. or do I have to move textures to textures folder and sound to sound folder and so on.  let me know

Hi bombardier. I noticed that file you mention. It looks like the same Mike Stone model modified to work in FSX.

All downloads will vary to some extent so I can't tell you how to install it without checking it out. You should find this a lot easier when you've successfully installed a few aircraft & know what to look for. If in doubt refer to the FSX default aircraft.
