I always get nervous on final approach especially at airstrips because of the trees. My glideslope be looking good but then...those trees!

All I know is that in every real world mention of objects in line with the runway they use a standard height of 50ft for your clearance.

So I'm thinking because that's the standard in the real world, FSX has probably made every tree about 50ft tall.

Just a guess tho.

There is a third party FSX file that will remove trees at a set distance from the end of runways.

However, I don't remenber what it's called or where I got it.
I'm not on my FSX sys right now.
Perhaps someone else can give you more info.

Trees are not the only things to worry about... :o..!

Keep a wary eye out for overhead Electricity Pylons and Telephone Poles...and the wires in between are invisible!... :(...!

A natural hazard for real Pilots!

Wow, an Englishman making a pop culture reference to a late 1960s American country and western song.

Naw, I'm already hearing " I am a lineman for the county....."

Darn - used to LOVE that song - saw him perform it live many moons ago - don't remember if it was the Hollywood Bowl or the Greek Theater - think the Bowl.

AArgh!

At AVSIM there's a file 'agexcl_3x.zip' which claims to remove trees from an area 3 times the runway width.

It's the natural action of the prop, as the pilot crosses the fence at 50ft, that keeps the trees trim. This is why prop driven aircraft are so important. When an airport goes jet-only, they have to chop all the surrounding trees down because they no longer get naturally pruned...

Cessna 152's Wheel Spats are an ideal way of collecting Birds Nests from the tree-tops on the threshold, thereby reducing the dangerous problem of Bird Strikes around the Airfield... :)...!

Are you counting the ones floating in mid-air along with houses at about 3-4k feet?

For a fun filled tree filled approach, try my hometown airport - D38.

Speaking for myself, I go in high, pretend Im a Nam pilot ferrying in troops with the field being mortar bombed, then I slam the nose down at the last minute and giggle at the howl coming from the cabin behind, pull up the nose at the last minute and chop the engines. Heehaw!!! Half my wheels get laminated on the runway surface and smoke eddies around the wings as I taxi cheerfully to parking whistling: "goodness gracious great balls of fire". Chuckle!

Ah, the classic dive bomb approach!  ;D I love watching those at air shows. Been a few that went wrong though.

To all you expert pilots out there......how do you deal with those airfields out in the sticks that is completely surrounded by trees? I once landed in an airfield out in Washington and almost crashed into the bushes. Then I couldn't get out of there. I did full power before releasing the brakes and the mighty Herculese pine tree tip stopped me like an NBA center. Most times I'm shocked when I get out of some of these small strips. Anyone ever been to that little scuff of an airfield/Island out in the Midway Islands (west of Hawaii)? To my surprise, it had trees at both ends of the runway.

@GarryRussel: You're right. The real question is the max hieght of FSX trees. Anyone?
