AI Carriers - The Unsolved Problem for me

Dear All FSX Players,

  There is one thing that is impossible for me to solve - The AI Carrier Problem. When I set it up, the setup says its complete. But, when I start up FSX, there is no add - on tab on the title menu in free flight, and the key command doesn't work either. I can't find any solutions to this for Windows Vista. If you guys have any solutions, please give detailed instructions on how to open the files, and other kinds of info. Please help! :-/

Thanks to all,   BobbyLovesRCAF

Thx but ive already tried the hosts thing  :(

I suspect it has to do with your version of JAVA.

Some time back I helped another person solve his AI Carriers problem on his
XP machine and his Win7 64 bit machine.

We went through all the procedures and ultimately the "fix" was having
him revert to an earlier version of JAVA.  AI Carriers would not work with
the "latest and greatest" version.

It used to be that updating your JAVA install would leave the prior versions
intact, thus allowing any program that relied on earlier versions to still function.

Apparently now, upgrading to the latest version wipes out prior versions and I
believe this is what is causing the problem for some folks.

Looking at my Java folder, I see that I have 4 versions. jre1.5.0_09, 1.6.0_02,
1.6.0_03 and 1.6.0_04.

I sent this person my 1.6.0_04 version and AI Carriers started working for him again.

Let us know if that works.  :)

On my old system, Aicarriers would work just fine every time I loaded FSX, I didn't have to do anything. After I upgraded my system, I had to manually open aicarriers and run it in the background. Give it a try.

If it works, it's also worthwhile to put a shortcut on your desktop next to the FSX shortcut.

I hope this helps :)

Check your EXE.xml file. It SHOULD look like this, with the exception of the
actual path to where you installed aicarriers2.

Code: Select all
<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
      <Descr>Launch</Descr>
      <Filename>EXE.XML</Filename>
      <Disabled>False</Disabled>
      <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
      <Launch.Addon><Disabled>False</Disabled>
      <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
      <Name>AICarriers</Name>
      <Path>K:\FSX Tools\AI carriers\aicarriers.exe</Path>
      <CommandLine>-nogui</CommandLine>
      </Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

Also, have you tried installing it as "Administrator"?

I don't have Vista but I have recently installed Win7 64-bit in a dual
boot configuration with my existing WinXP Pro install and aicarriers
runs OK in both systems. I install EVERYTHING as Administartor
in Win7 and try NOT to install to the Program Files folder. I also disable
UAC.

Your problem may still be Java related as I have seen some recent posts
indicating that reverting to a previous version "fixed" the problem for
some but not for others. Seems to be other variables at work.

Thanks everyone! I figured out how to open the program manually, and it works great on admin. Thanks for the tips! :)
