Anyone else try this? It seems to have all but eliminated my choppy flights and I don't mean turbulent either...I only get the occasional blip now and I can live with that until I can afford more loot.....I'd be interested in hearing your outcomes/opinions

Hi

Yes, I have done that too. Very good results.
Another good one is to lower the Trees and Autogen in the cfg file. Dropping them just a little makes a big difference. It doens't hurt the visuals much either, so it is a good trick.
I had tried some of the supposed guides, but they don't make any real difference. I suppose they are only useful if your system is clocked up alot.

The two lines;
[BufferPools]
UsePools=0
and
[GRAPHICS]
HIGHMEMFIX=1
along with lowering the trees and/or autogen count are the real sercrets to getting great performance from FSX. It is really that simple. No need for those voodoo dances we read about in the so called performance guides. They don't really do much, unless maybe your system was a mess to begin with.

Wow, great find. After the amendment, my Vaio laptop (ATI card) runs on high settings with the frame rate locked at 30, and hardly seems to vary from it, although only limited testing so far.

Thanks for the tip - perhaps I'll fly FSX more now...!

Are these two lines added at the bottom of the cfg. file or, is there a specific place for them?

You would add "HIGHMEMFIX=1" under the existing [GRAPHICS] heading. While I have a [BufferPools] heading in my CFG, I believe that's something I added a few years ago. If you don't already have it just copy/paste:

[BufferPools]
UsePools=0

and add it to you CFG file. [BufferPools] is the second heading from the top in mine.

There is no [Buffer Pools] section in the default FSX.cfg, you have to add it.

Look for TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL= and TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL= in the [terrain] section.

Thanks BoeingGuy! That was quick ;)
But, I can't find those lines in my Cfg. in [terrain]

There are two sets of settings for Jesus's tweaks - high end rig and medium.

Oh! I didn't know that. What's the other set (or where can I find it)?  I've got things running pretty smoothly except I get a lot of "shimmering" in the scenery - would the other set of settings have any effect on this, or does anyone know of something that would?
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

Probably a stupid question... Have you tried searching for it (Ctrl + F)?

That's because you have a virgin (well, almost) CFG file. Those lines aren't default. You'll have to add them to the [Terrain] section.

What would be a good number to set these at after added?
