FSX Map without starting sim?

Is there a way to see the map in FSX without launching the sim? I'm planning another world tour and want to find all the airports closest to my targeted destinations and would like to have access to getting online to compare and research. If not, is there a way to see the map before launching a flight? I mean go straight to the map view. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean but if you have a point of origin set, you open flight planner and click the edit tab. A map will come up before a flight plan is created.

Thanks Brett. Is this made with FSX in mind or does it have other uses? For example, I can find Brooklyn, CGAS in the FSX map with the runways visible when I zoom in but in SkyVector that airport is x-ed out. I know it is not in use anymore in real life but in FSX it can be used. The reason I want to use the FSX map is because I want to see ALL of the available airports in a given region that I can land in.

Edit: I also notice I can only choose within the US. It doesn't help for a world tour if that's the limit. But thanks again I will find much use for this.

That's weird, when I clicked on the link it opened to my area. Must use your IP address somehow to open to the area you are in. Cool.

No, it's made with real world flying in mind. Those are actual charts.
