HJG FX Vista/Win7 question

Do any of the members from the HJG side of the house post on our side of the forums?
I had an odd question if they do:
Following every instruction given, I can't get the black smoke to come from the engines at all in the 707/KC-135/E-3. The regular Smoke at cruising altitude works just find but none of the dark smoke comes out at all. And I first noticed it on Vista, and now that I did a fresh install of Windows 7, it still does the same thing. But every thing else works just fine as far as I can tell.
If they don't come to our side, has any one else with Vista or Windows 7 that has installed any of the old smoky jet liners from HJG ran into the same issue?

Well, you could try downloading one of the effects
here and link it to the smoke system so you can turn it on with the "I" key at low alt.

Already did that....How ever I shall try this mystical "I" key as you suggest and see if it does any thing.
I'll get back to you.

I have seen this before, and I belive it is an issue of using FS2004 effects in FSX.
I don't really know how to fix it though. :-/
Maybe someone more knowledgeable can tell you how.

Yup. It's not so much that the effects are different, but the differences are in the way the sims read the coordinates from the aircraft.cfg file.
Here's the difference:
In FS9,
[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.#= top(+)/bottom(-), front(+)/back(-), left(+)/right(-),
In FSX,
[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.#= front(+)/back(-), left(+)/right(-),top(+)/bottom(-),
The left or right coordinates, the way I typed them, are when you're looking at the plane head on. It would naturally be reversed from the point of veiw of the pilot while facing forward. ie, from the pilot's forward viewpoint a (+) number would move the effect right, not left.
Positive numbers move the effect one way, negative numbers go the other way. Changing these positions in the aircraft.cfg can be confusing at first, (I kept losing my place the first time I tried it) but if you just remember all you're doing is making the first FS9 number the last FSX number, you should be fine.
