Cold hard truth..

I just reinstalled fsx and am to the conclusion that my system just simply cant do it. I'll leave it installed to do the missions they seem to be ok. but in areas like Miami or New York forget it even with traffic at 30 percent airliners and GA and everything else at 0.. Ive followed Nicks guide of course but you cant substitue good hardware with software tweaking. So i'll keep using FS9 and missions with fsx, sorry had to vent. lol.. The bad thing is the fs9 world seems extinct now.. Maybe when my job comes back i'll build another system.........

Looking at your system specs I'm surprised FSX is going that bad for you... But then again FSX can make even a good computer look bad... And if you have been doing all the suggested tweaks it doesn't seem like you're going to have much luck :(

When I had my previous computer I usually kept out of the built up areas too... ::)

FSX is moody, I think. It has been running like crap for two weeks and today I fired it up and it ran like a thing of beauty. It sure can be a love/hate relationship!  :P

HOLY SH!T!  That's a lot of traffic!  Just turn traffic off, and it should run just fine.  I got 20fps more just by doing this.  Turn off all traffic, including airport ground vehicles.  Even 1% traffic will give you a big hit.

You have enough processing power with 3gigs,try upping your ram to 1,000,and when you reinstalled fsx did you download the patches, sp1 & sp2? I'm running fine with 2.2gigs and 1000ram, but I only use sp1 cause sp2 screws up my graphics.

Mine is back to where it was before, black screen anytime I access the menu or drop to a window.

Hi

Have you tried unchecking Antialiasing?
I asked because I too would have the same happen. I open ATC window, screens goes black for a second, GPS the same, etc. Unticking AA in the games menu fixed it. I have AA at 4X in GFX drivers FSX profile. It works fine like that and no screen blackouts.

Oh yeah, to the OP, I agree with others, you may just be trying to run too many AI planes for large traffic areas.
Take it down some and it may help alot.

Hope it helps :)

[color=#000000]I don't use in game AA, only on the card. It has something to do with the settings in both installs, though I don't really understand why. I quit running the copy for a while and made changes in the original. Then I decided to check the copy and it was working again. It reverted after an online connection with an Alienware tech. He also failed to reinstall my ATI Catalyst Control Center after reinstalling the driver. He is the one that told me nothing was wrong with the card, that it was a software issue and that they would not be replacing it. The next morning, I had an email to the contrary. I don't think the left hand knows what the right is doing.

I'll give that a go.. I still use the default traffic. maybe if i use woai it will help some. I have AA unchecked and set at 16x in nhancer.

16x Aniso in nHancer?

Try 8 - should be fine...

If you decide for WOAI, then remember to turn off your default bgl. in World Scenery folder. Rename it to .old or .bak or something...

Agree with the others here about AI - 10-15% at the most, and turn off those airportvehicles and traffic at max. 5%.

Also remember to adjust LOD, clouddraw  min. and clouds on high.

My anti aliasing is set on 4! I find it still does fairly well with quality while being a much smaller slug on the system :)

SpecsE6300, 3 gigs 800 Ram, 8800GT oc, 400gig Sata drive, Windows XP Pro 64 Bit..

I used to run FSX Acceleration on my laptop that has far less specs than what you show.

Maybe a cleanup/defrag will help?

I hear you, Sonic, I'm in your same situation (only worse: and I didn't even try to use FSX, that would be a waste of time... see my signature, the video card is OK but the CPU is definitely not).
Let's hope that the interest towards 2004 doesn't fade completely.
