If it opens in notepad then it is not a file. If you could supply a link it would help.

You don't have to open files to install an add-on a/c or livery - it's just copy and paste...
For opening a file with a programm it's not assigend to, click right on the file and choose 'open with', then 'choose programm' and check 'always open this filetype with this programm'.

You can't "right click" and get a pop-up menu with an "extract all" option?

If I understand correctly, you are saying that you no longer get a download prompt and the file opens in Notepad. If this is correct then the following will restore the prompt that says, open/save and "Always Ask Before Opening This Type of File Setting":
As Windows Vista/7 does not have the File Types tab in the Folder Options applet, you need to edit the registry in order to reset the Open/Save choice made earlier in Internet Explorer.
1. Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press ENTER
2. Navigate to the following branch:

When you first download the file, are you OPENing or SAVEing? any way , don't open the file , save it to ["your documents"] or were ever, than extract the contents, it usally comes with a READ ME which should tell you how to install ( planes, scenery, liverys, whatever). Some times they come with auto installers.

Yes, under normal circumstanses you statement is correct. However, if you were to uncheck the little box that says "Always Ask Before Opening This Type of File Setting", you will never again get a prompt to open/save for that file type (which in this case is ZIP). Instead, it will automatically open the file by using an application. You will not be able to save by right-clicking either. Just try it and will see that the ONLY way to get the open/save prompt back is to edit the registry.
Again, read his original description carefully. He says that anytime that wants to DOWNLOAD a file, whether it is an FSX file or something else, it opens in Notepad. This implies that this is not an FSX-specific issue.

My first instructions were for Internet Explorer. However, I did a search and found how you can easily fix your problem in Google Chrome:
1) Open the tools menu (by clicking on the wrench icon).
2) Select "Options".
3) Click on the "Under the Hood" tab.
4) About 2/3 of the way down in the "Download" section, click the button labeled "Clear auto-opening settings".
Here is a web site showing a very similar proceedure for another problem that is closely related. This will illustrate 90% of what I described above.
