The logbook is in BIN format which is classed by Windows as an unrecognised file type. You could associate it with any application you wish but I believe updating the logbook is usually done within FSX. Leaving it associated with AVG should do no harm as FSX can still read it.

Please be careful editing this file as I believe it can cause all sorts of problems. From advice I've seen in this forum it might be better to use different software to keep a record of your flights.

Hagar, thank you once again for your advice. It's good to know that the files should still be readable in the sim,as I had visions of a re-installation.
Apprecciate your help. By the way if ever I have to do a re-install or anyone else has to for that matter, the best advice as I am now learning, is that you should do a complete back up of FSX to another drive. It would certainaly stop me and fellow simmers from having to ask for this type of help so often.
Chow.

You're welcome to the advice. I'm not sure how AVG associated itself with BIN files on your system but backing the files up wouldn't change the association.

FSX has a Repair option that should restore all default files. The only problem being that if you have SP1, SP2 or Acceleration installed you would have to uninstall them before running it.

Hagar, a big favour if you will. Could you go to your Logbook.BIN fies and hover/right-click, and go to properties and tell me what the "opens with" entry (assocciation program) is.
Thank's.

I already told you. It's an unrecognised file type. It's not associated with any software.

No need to apologise. I suspect most people don't know much about file association. All it really does is to open the file in the associated program when you double-click on the icon.

A lot of FS default files are classed as unrecognised file types. FS can still read them whichever program they're associated with.

...mine is associated with the VLC-Player. It's not possible to open it with it (and I guess AVG will neither) and I have no idea why it's associated with this programm... FSX looks just for the filename and isn't interrested to what this file is associated to!  ;)
