Download problem

It's embarrassing but I must admit my mind simply cannot grasp the tasks involved with downloading aircraft. I thought I licked it today after reading Grump's tutorial when I downloaded an aircraft to file x86. But when I tried to extract it I rec'd a warning window which read: "You do not have write permission  to that folder. Please select another and try again."  This is a new one on me.  What "permission"?  I don't know who gives the permission. I am totally puzzled.  Maybe this Q is covered elsewhere in these threads but I can't locate it. I guess I'm condemed to a lifetime of se;f-iinstalling payware. Is there a thread covering all this?

Hey, Denis!

A question... what sim & OS are you using, and which file is it?

Alan :)

file x86.

Sounds like you have a 64 bit OS. I suspect you've run into the security features of either Vista or Windows 7 where the Program Files folders are protected, meaning that only Administrators  can change their contents. That's what the "permission" is all about.

Unfortunately I have no knowledge of either so can't offer advice.

Hi, Viper: I am using FSX in Win7. Not sure what you mean by OS. I have the "Bitzipper"  tool and was trying to download the Dash from Primaircraft site. Hope this helps.

Hagar: I will try to disable Window security. Thanks.

Please be careful. I suggest waiting for proper advice on the subject.

PS. Not sure what this is doing in the Flight School forum. Perhaps a mod can move it to a more suitable forum where the gurus are likely to spot it.
