So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs.

so out of all the FSX users out there, nobody has thought to try and install directx 10 on a win xp system to get the best out of the graphics?

No, probably not, since it isn't really DX10. I know when I was on XP Pro I wasn't about to put that hack on my machine. I think most people feel that way. The subject has came up before.

You won't get the best of the graphics, simply because you won't get any of the FSX DX10 features with this pack.
Although it's called "DirectX10", this pack does not enable the DX10 features in FSX, FSX still runs in DX9 mode.

Some users on another forum have recently tried this package. Some report an increase in performance, some say they had no gains or no loss. Some say that although FSX works well, they get stability problems with other games.

In the end, nobody gets the DX10 features, so no shadow in the cockpit, no special effects for water, etc... It's just some customized DX9.

Hi Thanks for the replies, now I'm not too sure about getting FSX for the moment, though the FSX Gold pack is drawing me towards it, I have only tried the fsx demo which runs fine and smoothly but my own experience with other demos is they are nothing like the final item as far as demands on your system.

I'd just love to have the quality of the graphics I've seen on the low level flights through wales, I do get very similar quality on fs2004 but really only around seattle or in the swiss alps.

I don't intend at the moment moving onto vista and directx 10 for financial reasons but found the article on adding the core components from dx10 onto xp.

Forget about DX10, period. DX10 isn't what makes FSX look so nice to begin with!

The "DX10 Preview" is just that; a "preview" and nothing more. It only implemented (badly) a few features from DX10, and truthfully was only added in reluctantly to satisfy the MS Legal Beagles, since the PR Bunnies had -unfortunately- made such outrageous promises during the pre-release advertising hype...
