Can FSX be totally Converted? (to a new planet?)

Postby Mistro » Mon Jan 11, 2010 7:17 pm

This question is to all you FSX tech wizards. I know land classes and various things can be tweaked, altering the look and feel of default FSX. I've seen full conversions made to games like Unreal Tournament. How far can we go with FSX. I been wondering if it is possible to create an entirely different planet. Fictional of course. I just love to see how far a game could be customized. I have a planet I been working on for years (my own fictional planet) and was just imagining actually being able to do some sim flying there. I know this may be a stretch of a dream but is it possible?

with the right coding, exclude files, scenery texture / terrain mesh files... anything is possible.

all you need to know is what programs you need to use, and how to use them to make "FS EARTH" into say "FS MARS" -- Red clay deserts everywhere with mountains and absolutely no water anywhere except at the poles.

Happy flying the Goose!!

Makes you wonder what the new company of former 'Aces' are dreaming up and what will be coming from Flight 1 now that they have the Microsoft FS vault.

Technically, you can create your own planet, but it's going to require A LOT of scenery creation skills. Also, you won't be able to tweak the planet size or the value of the local gravity. Other than that, there should be very few issues. You'll have to design each area of the planet, draw all the textures for the various landclasses, build all the meshes, build and place all of the custom-sceneries, etc...
You'll need several years, that is.

F1 only licensed the ESP re-distributes, and even then only for use with Professionsl simulator applications. Like Lockheed's agreement, they can NOT release any "entertainment" product.

Neither company will ever have a product simmer's could buy, much less afford!  :o

So far I recently figured out how to repaint aircraft and create airport scenery. I am currently on a quest to figure out how to make non-airport scenery (the areas that surround airports and landclasses......didn't find a comprehensive tutorial yet). Once I figure that out I guess I'll be able to find out how to create meshes. I do art for a living so making textures is not a problem for me. My biggest challenge is finding out how to manage files and where to put them with what program.

Mistro, for MOST of the tutorials that you will/could ever need about designing, check out http://www.scenery.org/tutorials.htm  this 1 sight has saved me MANY hours of posting questions on here or other places.

Hi Folks

I been wondering if it is possible to create an entirely different planet.

Yes it should be possible.
