Try in Internet Explorer if you're using Firefox.

did you go look where it is supposed to be saved to see if your file is actually there?

C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator X ???

or possibly another location?

the Word / text file that you speak of might be a "self opening" README/Thank you for downloading file.  I have run across a couple of those from time to time.

I have MINEFIELD (a product of FireFox) what are a couple of planes that you are trying to download. Maybe I could try to download them as well to see if there is anything that goes wrong on my end.  ~~ also I would try as Grizzard suggests. Try Internet Explorer.

Are you going by the file extension or the icon? If the downloaded files have the Word icon I suspect the ZIP (.zip) file extension has somehow become associated with Word on your system. If I'm right you can extract the files by right-clicking on them & selecting the "Extract All", "Extract to Folder" or similar option. That's how I always extract them anyway.

PS. Word files will have the .doc file extension.
