Everything Microsoft recommends including a registry check.

I would be fascinated to know, if you live on the other side of the World to Uncle Bill, how much the Telephone call is going to cost you to chat to him, regarding problems concerning Microsoft?
...are the calls completely free of charge?
Paul....fone 'ome....

...!

I think my call was toll free to reactivate FSX.
"Hello, is Bill home? I need to talk to him. I can't fly." :)

Don't think it was Uncle Bill or even a close relative.

'Is this common?'
Common enough that the MS resolution is listed in SimV's 'FSX-FAQ's' sticky.

You might do a Google search on both errors. 1722 might indicate that an earlier attempt was made to install and 1603 could indicate lack of hard drive space. MS does have a utility someplace to correct 1722 false errors ....

In order to check if the disk #2 is really damaged, you can simply try to copy all of its content to a temporary folder on your hardrive. If the copy succeeds, then the disk is OK and the error was due to another problem, like a picky anti-virus or anything like that.
It's a common technique to copy the content of both disks into a folder on a hardrive, and then launch the installation from there. It helped many simmers installing FSX in the past, when installing from the DVD was not possible for them.

My next order of business - thanks for the tip.

I never thought of copying the contents of the CD onto the hard drive... But if the CD contents are somewhat "copy-protected" (sorry, computer illiterate), would that still work? Otherwise everyone would be passing disks around in order to burn the CD... I'm probably dead wrong, I need to get computer-educated
