JR - you chose the wrong scale-size rivets, they're about .05(scale)mm to big...

(Well, SOMEONE, had to unreasonably criticize the otherwise fantastic work!!)

For any one interested in this HUD, I found a video he made on YouTube about it (linked from FlightSim.com), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZplmhTGO ... r_embedded

Hey, thanks to everyone for the support :)

I am currently working on making the HUD install on Dino Cattaneo's T-45C Goshawk. I should be ready for the weekend.

I just got the chance to try out your improved HUD, and I all can say is great job (I can't imagine doing another carrier landing with out it), and keep up the good work.

I just installed your new HUD and it works great. Thank you!

I do have one question though. Why do you have a line in FA18_HUD_VC_R.xml that clamps the lowest airspeed display at 48 knts?

%((A:Airspeed indicated, knots) 48 >=)%{if}%((A:Airspeed indicated, knots))%!3d!%{else}48%

When I taxi, I like to know how fast I am going so I don't flip during turns. I am not an XML developer, but I replaced both instances of 48 with 0 and rebuilt the CAB file with Visual Studio 2008. I hope it was correct. In any case, it seems to work just fine now for my needs. Any thoughts?

Peter

Hi Peter. 48 it the lowest speed the real Hornet HUD can show. You can see this in this video for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mkx4C5SEej0

Even if it did show a lower reading, that would be your air speed, which when on the carrier deck, will be the speed of the carrier +/- the wind speed, and it will still not be a good indication of your taxiing speed. However, there is a Nose Wheel Steering cue displayed in the lower right corner of the HUD. If it shows 'NWS HI' - this means that your taxiing speed is low enough so that you can apply full deflection of the nose wheel. If it shows only 'NWS', this means your taxiing speed is too high and you should use a much smaller deflection. So to avoid flipping during taxiing, make sure you see the 'NWS HI' cue.

The NWS cues in the real Hornet indicate in which of the two modes the Nose Wheel Steering system is - low gain ('NWS' cue) or high gain ('NWS HI'). In the low mode ('NWS'), full rudder pedal deflection commands approx 16

Hi neutrino, thanks for the clarification. You definitely know your FA-18 aircraft!!! I will use the CAB file that you supplied and pay attention to the NWS cue.
