Looking For Intelligent Input

If you've already downloaded any 747-400 from the POSKY (Project Open Sky) website, you know that they carry a warning: POSKY will not support the 747-400 V4 series for use with FSX. They were built (like all other POSKY models) for FS2004. These aircraft have visual and performance deffects that naturally occur due to FSX and the way it operates compared to FS2004.

So, if you've downloaded these aircraft and flown them in FSX, you further know that manuevering these aircraft on the ground is quite a pain; they slide as if on a solid sheet of ice, and are extremely difficult to turn.

So, POSKY isn't going to offer support? Fine. Whatever. Because that's what us Forum Folks are for.

So, any ideas? First of all, what's the problem here? Is it something in the .cfg? How does the information in the cfg alter the way an aircraft taxies or manuevers on the ground? Is there a way of fixing it so that the tires of the aircraft have a more realistic grip of the tarmac/asphalt/concrete?

[If you don't know what I'm talking about, go out and try one of the POSKY 747-400s. Remember, this doesn't happen with any other 747 model, as far as I know. See for yourself-its quite a challenge to handle these things on the ground!]

I'm pretty smart about stuff like this compared to when I got FSX over a year ago, but I know there's still plenty to learn, and I know that we would all love a solution to the POSKY 744 problem. Because don't get me wrong-these are great planes. They make me pretty angry a lot of the time, but I can't help it. They are great planes to fly. But not to taxi.

So I hereby appeal to the "senior" members, for want of a better word. Or, anyone who thinks they can help. Lets brainstorm people, that's what these forums are for; lets find a solution and then spread it around. I know I'm not the only one who wishes this problem could be solved.

So let me know what you think. Everyone can put in their two cents, but I really look forward to hearing from the SimV community on this one. There's a whole lot to learn here, and a whole lot of potential! Thanks!

To be honest this is the first I've personally heard of the taxi problem with posky's 744. I have several of them myself and dont have any of the problems you are having. I can say that while there are indeed a few issues with using an FS9 aircraft in FSX, they are very minor.

I dont really have an answer for your problem as I have not experienced them, but if you hang in there long enough, posky just might make them FSX compatible.... as they are now making the 777 FSX compatible. Maybe they are starting to realize that FSX is not going away, and much like other companies, are adapting to it. Lets hope so because they are all very nice aircraft!

I've noticed it... the rudder on the 744 doesn't turn once you go past around 1 knot, and will start turning after around 60 or so.
Noticed it in the other 747s too.
Edit: Seems to be exactly the same for all the 747s.
I was thinking if you change the XML documents in the panel, but I don't know how easy it is to change.

First thing I'd try is to copy the contact points section in the aircraft.cfg file from the default 747 to the Posky's aircraft.cfg file (of course instead of the corresponding section).
