How do you use boats in fsx. Do I need to move the folder from boats to airplanes, or what?

You have to download them.
For example:
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/st ... =69&page=2some boats here

If using the above link for the Siracco LT you would would download it as an aircraft would be done, to aircraft file. but your question is a bit vague, as in how to use boats or as in where do boat files go. If you have done the download proccess correctly you should have a thumbnail for it in FSX airplanes. In order to use it you will have to get it on suitable waterways. One way I use is to find a runway at sea level which is close to where you want to anchor. Click your thumbnail and select the runway and load your "flight". Bring up the menu bar and select map. Now click and drag the airplane icon on the map so it is just offshore and drop it there. Want to sail the Grand Canyon? Turn off crash detection in FSX. Load your boat on a nearby runway. Drag and drop it in the river, yeah, its falling through the air. Go have a snack and when you come back your boat will uprite itself and be floating on the great Colorado river. Sail it to your desired anchor point and hit the "save flight" key, give your save a title. Now you should always be able to start a nice cruise from saved flights, and turn crash detection back on, if you want crash detection always on, turn it on BEFORE you save your flight.
Finally, boats can be sailed via keyboard or joystick, and if the model has a clickable VC sailing from the "cockpit" is fun.
There are other ways to do all this, I suppose, but these are the basics.

Actually you can put them in ANY folder. If it were me, I'd create a new folder
for those 'special' types of objects and then just add the path to that folder
in the fsx.CFG file "Main" section. This makes the housekeeping a little easier,
IMO.
Here's an example of my Main section. Note that I have no desire for "Animals"
and have commented out that entry.
- Code: Select all
[Main]
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
//SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.6=M:\FSX AI Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.7=M:\FSX Military AI
SimObjectPaths.8=I:\FSX Military Aircraft
SimobjectPaths.9=I:\FSX A6 Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.10=SimObjects\Propliner Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.11=ORBX\FTX_AU\FTXAI_AIRCRAFT
