I just bought and loaded fsX, the Deluxe version.  How do I know if I need to download either service pack?

Hi. Everybody should dl the 2 patches. It's all part of making FSX perform better.

Be careful. SP2 undid many of the corrections for problems that were in the original version and were corrected in SP1. Also SP1 allows many of your favorite FS9 aircraft to be flown in FSX with minimal problems. However, you will not be able to load the (still relatively few) aircraft that have been created for FSX SP2 which will have model problems. SP2 has problems of its own. If you are a scenery designer you will find that SP2 causes more problems than its worth. I have no desire to fly a F16 so I loaded and deleted Acceleration which incorporates SP2. SP2 is really for DX10 which doesn't actually exist and if you go onto MS's website you will find the only example of DX10 they give is FSX in DX10 preview which doesn't work properly and gives problems with many graphics cards. I have used FSX SP1 quite happily for some time now.

My advice is - add the SPs in stages and make up your own mind. Many on here will have other opinions and will argue violently which is why I rarely visit or post on these forums.

You only need to download and install SP2.  ;) (SP1 is NOT required to install SP2).
