Bloom causing FSX to crash (ENBseries)

I am trying to get the ENBseries bloom effect to work. I am using a nVidia 8600GTS with the latest drivers and I have installed the DirectX9 runtime software from Microsoft.

If I have the two ENBseries bloom files in the FSX root folder, the game will not load. I double click to load it up, about 10 seconds later (on the blue loading screen before FSX) it will crash. It gives me a general 'Fatal Error Occured' message and closes down.

If I remove the files from the root folder, it boots fine.

I have been able to get it to work in the past. This is a clean install (as per the sticky) of FSX and the only other thing added onto FSX is an aircraft, which is working fine.

Any ideas what may be happening and how to solve it?

Cheers

Where did you download this bloom mod?

Does the default bloom feature work?

Daube linked me to the download for it.

Default bloom seems to cause the game to crash too  :-/

Yeah, I just checked it then. I turn on bloom and go to the flight selection screen. The box with the aircraft is black, then it freezes (before I can click anything) and I get the fatal error occured message.

It may be worth noting that not too long back I was able to run FSX with all sliders on full and ENB bloom and get several FPS. Now, with medium settings and trying any bloom it just crashes. So I don't see what would've changed. My system has worked better than this before.

I'm starting to think about a hardware issue.
In my opinion, the things are going to get worse in the near future...
Let's hope I'm wrong.

I think you could well be right, but I don't know what is wrong. I haven't changed any hardware.

Are there any tools I could run to check the performance on my hardware for things like this? Benchmark tests or something which would tell me what is wrong?
