I suspect that the answer is that it cannot be done, but....

I understand that if using FSX with the settings that give priority to the 2d panel, the hat-switch side views are frames from the virtual cockpit. I am curious if there is a way to encorporate 2d sideviews such as in FS2004.

I am hoping to take up a few non-vc FS2004 aircraft that cannot have an FSX VC modded to it, and it looks strange to have open air everywhere except when facing forward.

I'm thinking that if the cockpit is modeled, you should be able to put a "cameraview" where the pilot's head should be, and that should almost work like a VC view.  I tried that once in a OV 10, but ended up looking at the pilot's crotch, and was too tramatized to go back and adjust the camera up and faceing forwards.  Otherwise, the only drawback I saw was that the panning was very slooooow.  But that may be adjustable somewhere too.

The aircraft in question that I am wishing to port over is the Dreamwings Dash-8Q100. I'm assuming that you mean putting a camera view in the interior of the exterior (spot plane) model, and direct that view to the VC section some how?

My main goal is just to have realistic side views when looking all around in the 2D panel mode. I think I know what you are getting at, but it would require a ton of reworking with the view system to get a specific camera view to show up in the interior of the model when snapping to the front-left/right, left/right, and rear-left/right when in the cockpit-2d panel mode.

Thanks for the help though.  ;)

The Dreamwings Dash-8 has no VC which means it has no interior views of the cockpit or cabin.

My main goal is just to have realistic side views when looking all around in the 2D panel mode.

I could be wrong but I don't think a FS2000-style 2D panel with side views is possible in FSX. I think the eventual idea was to do away with the 2D panel altogether like CFS3.
