I'm totally new to this so please bear with me. after discovering the addons and understanding what they do, stillthings seems quiet a bit confusing and hopefully someone can clear things up fr me.
First I have FS X
I was pretty blow with the game and the aircrafts. I was flying with the included aircrafts but noticed many people are flying with real airline planes. Like British airways, Air Canada etc.
How do you go about doing that as I want to fly a plane using either a British airways or air Canada airbus or boeing planes.
i did some search and youtube and found places where I can download addons.
When I install the addons, either there is no sound or I don't see the guages or

?
I downloaded air Canada from Simviation and I see it in FSX when I start the game. but no sound of the jet taking off or flying and no Guages on the instrument panels etc.
So, just wondering why theyare missing. Do addons have to purchased or

Or is there anyay to change the planes that are already included in FSX eg: world travel and change the txt to air Canada or somehting else.
thanks.

I'm hardly one to be handin' out advice, but I'll do it this time. I just added-in my first download-- the F-22 in eight paint schemes with the VC. I downloaded, unzipped and dropped the F-22 folder into the Airplanes folder in the SimObjects folder. I went to FSX and bango! there it was. So easy a caveman could do it. I hope they are all that easy. Maybe it was just a very well done model for which the gentle geniuses behind it really did their homework, so that n00bs like me wouldn't go crazy trying to put new birds into their sim. My sincere Thanks to those guys...

Tried my second install, and it didn't go so well. Installed the ACTIVE F-15. The pilots were black solids and no canopy glass. Took it out of the hangar right then.
I see numerous references to Roger Dial's P-51. Where can I download this one, please? Every simpilot should have his own P-51. Did a Search and many, many references come up. Looking for the O-riginal model-- I'm assuming it is the best one because so many others have put textures on it. Thanks...

salut aircanada, unfortunately installing airplanes is not ,from my own experience, always easy. some developper had the good idea to put an installing wizard in their package, when some airplanes need to be install pieces by pieces, or you have to inzip some others directly in fsx.sometimes the readme info is not accurate probably due to translation errors. here what i have done myself, i began small, i mean whit small vintage airplanes. few pieces easy to install. and i always take time to go in fsx program, open the many files and just look what's inside of it. it gave me a better idea what to do. take your time, some of the freeware addons are just great . good luck and good flight.

For best results, there's a True FSX "sticky" topic. Anything else is caviet empator. I have a few tht are "Buggy", but I put up with the bugs because I like the aircraft.

From what I've found, that particular mustang is FS9, but there are at least two updated Roger Dial mustangs in the FSX DL section:
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?I ... 3&mark=772I haven't found the original, unless that is the "Little One III". It does not say it's a repaint, so it may just be the original, but made FSX compatable. Caviat empator.

it'a matter of fact that most of the addons i have found in simviation work very well, some are first quality. graphics, virtual cockpit and everything. for my part i had the fsx regular than i change for deluxe fsx, so the p-51 is included.it's fast and very responding but it's a handful of a plane. but then i only have a 100 hrs flight experience.so as far as addons are concern you try some and if you don't like it you delete it. simviation is a good place to find your addons and it's cheap, perfect for my wallet.

The best way I have found to get started with the freeware from this site is to start with a simple repaint of a default FSX aircraft. Try to download the repaint of the CRJ-700 In FSX, Civil Jets, Page 90,Bombardier CRJ-700 Air Canada New Tail Textures
Once you have that follow the insrtuctions very carfully and install the new paint job in Simobjects under

There ya go! Many, many thanks...
Downloaded the above P-51. I see something in the folder that says it's a repaint fix, and it has an autoinstaller arrow above a little hard rive. Am I supposed to click on this and let the fix install, or just install the whole folder into the Airplanes folder?

Usually, it's a good idea to create an empty folder, and name it whatever you like, in this case "P-51", and use the auto-installer, but direct it to install it in that "P-51" folder you just made. Then install it manually, just like you would any other add-on. The reason is that some (and I'm not familiar with the down-load you have) are originally for FS9, and the auto installer will not look for the "SimObjects" folder, and at best, you'll have folders from the download scattered around FSX.
Installing add-ons in FSX is pretty much *exactly* like installing add-ons in FS9. Same procedures, except FSX has a "SimObjects" folder that breaks addo-ons into classes (airplanes, watercraft, rotocraft...), instead of just "Aircraft". (Which is what confuses the auto-installers)

I left the repaint thingy alone and did the install manually. It works, but the airplane does not show as nicely as it did in FS9. Gotta be something I do or don't have checked. Can't figure it out. Can't remember if I saw these speckly things when I had FSX on this machine last year. Was using older nVidia drivers, then. I think I have the 190.xx ones on now. Have not tried n-hancer, yet. Busy on Yahoo! Messenger...

Odd that nobody has offerred a service that allows you to automatically install 3rd part aircraft, scenery etc. Or maybe someone has and I haven't found it. Anyone know of one? I am of the K-war generation and am new to FS and, to a degree, computers.

But with very little practice, installing an add-on is second nature, and done in the blink of an eye.
That "blink" took me weeks to learn. Some still bomb on me the first time, but I have enough experience to eventually figure out what I did wrong. If it's too tough, I just pass on that airplane...
